I am still getting calls from co-workers of my husband inviting us as a family to functions. I am also getting calls from people he has known several years inviting us to their summer homes for a weekend. How can people not know? What do I tell them? He left me for a colleague and someone they know. How could they not know?

I think its all pretty odd Daisy. I would ask your ex what he thinks you might get a revealing answer

It happens, over the years, the combined names of a husband and wife end up on all kinds of lists that do not get updated but every year or so and when people get divorced, those things just slowly make their way to the surface. I have been separated, divorced and remarried and years have passed, yet people still will come up to me and ask how my wife is doing and be shocked to find out I have a different wife than I did the last time we talked. Don't take it personal and don't let it bother you, they do not mean any harm like some have said. They feel worse than you do when the hang up the phone.

It does sound pretty odd to me. Maybe they really don't know?

The next time someone calls say "Oh, I'd LOVE to come to (whatever function)!!" Mention that you can't respond on behalf or your husband because he's no longer living there since he left you for (girl's name).

Keep your head high and your voice level. If it's a function you want to attend, then go. Those that didn't know will now be informed and those that knew and are being vindictive will be put in their place.

You are getting a divorce, right?

Your husband and colleague kept it quiet. That is a good thing. Forward his mail and invites to his new address and give the people who call his new phone number (no need to explain to them he is no longer with you, let him stutter through that)

The world doesn't revolve around you. People don't make it their business to keep track of who is still married.

Kindly tell them the truth with NO detail. "Bob and I are no longer together, but thank you for the invitation"

If you dont want the invitation just say nicely im sorry we can not attend as we are no longer together.
Try to refrain yourself from bad mouthing him as it will make you look pathetic and unable to move on.

Some people are just plain dense. If you get continue to receive calls inviting you and your ex to functions, just politely tell them "if you need to reach [Bob], you can reach him at so-and-so's number" and then just hang up.

Either some of them truly do not know (which in a way is good in at least says they don't involve themselves in the office gossip and personal knowledge pool) and they have mistakenly done these things.

OR

Some of his more vicious and knowledgeable coworkers know and its a stab at you.

Change your phone number, as inconvenient as this may be.

If you choose to tell them anything, tell them the truth plainly and simply and leave it at that.

Polity thank them for the invite but tell them he has a new partner and suggest they ask them and then give them his number. He obviously didn't tell anyone and neither did she.

Just a thank you for the invite, but we are no longer together.

Don't put him down, it makes you look bad.

If they ask what happened, simple say that you haven't the foggiest, he said he was leaving and was gone. They will think he is rude. :)
