Stop drinking immediately and give up smoking if you can. Chances are this did not hurt your baby, but don't take any more chances!

Try not to worry about the past. You can't change it. All you can do now is to start a healthy lifestyle for both of you. Stop drinking and talk to you DR. about help with stopping smoking. Ask you doc if the alternatives such as the patch or gum is a better alternative to help you. Start on prenatal vitamins today. You do not need a prescription for these. Just go to the local drugstore. Most stores care their own brand which are cheaper but the same as name brands.
Congratulations!

Stop immediately & also tell your doctor. I never smoked, but did have some wine on Thanksgiving & found out I was pregnant the first week in Dec. My doctor told me to, ofcourse stop, but that he didn't think it would cause any problems because I found out I was pregnant before any of the major organs were developed.

Even with this said, I have been paranoid my entire pregnancy. So, I hope you don't stress yourself out too much. I would avoid posting questions or reading opinions of non-professionals because it will only make you crazy!!! Good luck

Stop drinking and smoking IMMEDIATELY, however the first 3 months is when the most crucial things are being developed in the baby and the excess smoking/drinking can end up causing a birth defect.

For the health of your baby, throw the booze away and try your best to give up smoking. Everything you have will be transfered thru to your baby and there is lot's that can cause very serious health probs. A friend of mine smoked heavily, despite good advice, all thru her pregnancy. She had a baby with hole in heart and all sorts of other troubles. Give both of you a good chance at happy healthy family life and ditch all that threatens that. All the best.

well, if you found out that you are pregnant, and you want to keep the baby, i suggest you quit smoking and drinking right now, and go see a gynecologist. tell him about your smoking and drinking , go get your blood tests to see just how did your smoking and drinking affect your body! the doctor can tell you more! all i can say is good luck! I'm a smoker too and i know just how bad it is! and good luck with your baby!

Firstly I would try not to worry too much at this stage. It is highly unlikely you damaged your baby (probably did more harm to yourself) as the umbilical cord is good at filtering out most harmful chemicals. Before I found out I was having my eldest son I was a total wreck, dependant on drink and drugs (prescription and illegal ones, inc. cocaine and valium to excess) I had gone on a total bender that week I found out (and several weeks before, and it was Friday 13th, but he was fine when he was born and all the scans reassured me so before he was born. If you are worried in the slightest have a quiet word with your midwife or doctor who can put your mind at ease, I'm sure this happens to many women out there who don't realise they are in early stages of pregnancy too.

Try to stop smoking, if you need to limit yourself to six a day till you can. Also stop drinking, since you aren't that far along chances are you didn't hurt the baby, but you need to stop asap.
