First rule. Never do business with someone who contacts you out of the blue. If you do not recognize the business and you have not contacted them on your own in the past then ignore them. There are too many scams out there that rely on bulk mailings/recorded phone calls/ bulk emails. This could be a scam. It could be a debt recovery agent. It could just be an annoying salesman. Whatever it is, it is probably not something to your benefit.

A potential scam would be them having you call a number they provide which turns out to be an 900 type number. There are some that you have to pay by the minute for that are not 900 numbers. There have been some that charged hundreds of dollars a minute. Also, it could be someone trying to get your information so they can steal your ID or just get your credit card info and go on a spending spree at your expense. Another scam is saying that they have a package for you and that you need to pay a fee to get it. You pay the fee but the package never arrives.

Lets say it is a debt collection service. If you owe a debt and you want to take care of it then give it a shot. If owe a debt and don't want to pay it back then ignore them. Lets say it was a very old debt that the statute of limitations prevented them from taking you to courty on. An unscrupolous debt collector could say that your phone call was you contacting them about paying the debt and use that to reset the statute of limitations. Even without that, they have plenty of ways of getting you to say something on the phone that will reset the statute and allow them to take you to court to get back money that could have been owed many years ago.

Finally, if it is a salesman, do you really want to waste the time talking to the guy. All in all, I would say ignore the letter. If they want to really get in touch with you, they will use more than a letter.

This company is part of Global Debt Recovery Ltd, who buy very old debts (over 6 years old) from banks, credit card companies etc. Do not ring the number, they will try and trick you into giving information. The letter is simple and designed to worry you, with big words like investigations, etc, (just to give you a few sleepless nights).

The 6 year limitation act does apply here, however WARNING if you start making payments, agree, acknowledge, get into correspondence or confirm a debt or make an offer that you owed this money which is over 6 years old the limitation starts again. Chuck the letters in the bin .

As this was a few years ago, looks like they've forgotten about you again.

It sounds like a courier company that may have had a package for you at some point. Probably not anymore.
