Some people say that people who are gay choose to be gay. People who are gay say they are born that way.

So when straight people say it is a choice to be gay, isn't it also a choice to be straight? Or if you were born straight then how is it a 'choice' for a person to be gay? How can one ideology be fine for one particular group but not the other? We either all choose to be of a certain orientation or we are all born a certain way.

I know people will say, well we are all born hetero and the people who are gay choose to be but that doesn't work for me. Why would someone 'choose' anything in life that's gets them so much ridicule?

Use the bible if you must but I want you to really use your own brain on this one. If you are wondering, yes, I am a herterosexual Christian. I believe gays are wonderful people and are not doomed to hell.

My daughter came out to us as Lesbian after one child and 10 years of marriage. So I know of what I "think".

I have looked back on it and I am inclined to believe that she was born that way, but it stayed suppressed or she kept it suppressed trying to fit in the the correct Niche she had established.

So I am of the opinion that people who come out later in life as an adult, have kept their sexual interest hidden for the sake of family and opinion of others. That is changing and while people may experiment I do feel people are born one or the other.

God has a plan, we just do not know what it is.

Peace to you , amen . Lets start with the Bible since you state
that you are a Christian and also since you state that fact that
you must also have complete trust in the Word Of God . I will
list for you some readings how God speaks to you/us on this sin. Gen 19:5
Leviticus 18:22-23, 20:13 ,Deuteronomy 23:17 , Judges 19 :
22-24 , 1 Sam. 18:1-4 , 20 :17-41 , 2 Sam. 1: 26 , 19:1-6 ,
1 Kings 15:12 , 14: 24 , Job 36:14 , Joel 3:3 , Romans 1: 24-27 , 1 Cor. 6 :9-10 , 1 Tim. 1:10 , Revelation 17:5 , Jude 8 (gnb), it brings me no joy to give you these readings from God
for your Sin . You do have a choice to over come any sin in
the name of our Lord Jesus . But first you must trust Him and
not reject the truth . We all sin and none are greater than the
other . This how ever is your cross to bear , bring your burdens to Him and He will make it light for you . Satan has
his grips on all of us , some more than others . I can not judge
you for I am a sinner as well . God commands us to stop sinning and fight it all the way . That is how we become sanctified and complete and then Holy to be with our Father . Not to give in
to sin and become it , for we all can do that . No , we are to
make a stand in Jesus and walk with Him and do what is right
no matter how hard it may seem to us . I love you and grieve
for you and the many that struggle with this, May God strengthen you , keep you save and pour out His Saving Grace upon you , Amen.........

If you are a Christian and you take the Bible at it's word then you know what it says in Romans about this issue and no I don't intend to quote the passage to you. God made man and then decided that even with all the animals and birds man needed a companion so he made woman. The purpose was for companionship yes, but it was also to procreate and popoulate the earth. He gave us free choice just because the rules don't appeal to everyone doesn't make them any less the rules. God has given us a set of rules by which to live and if you choose not to follow the first one which is to be saved by faith through Christ then it doesn't matter how good you are you will not go to heaven when you die. As to why people choose to life styles outside of what society considers the "norm" who knows but they do it all the time. My husband and I were on vacation and we saw a family at an amusement park the mom was neat as a pin the two little girls were just as cute as little buttons. Dad had a purple and red mohawk, a ring through his nose that had a chain in it that went through the ring in his upper lip. He was pushing a stroller in it was a cute little boy about 14mths old guess what purple and red baby hair mohawk no piercings yet. Now what was the point in that look it served no purpose other than to shock and amaze. I thought it was hilarious. My husband made the comment "and some people move over to the other side of the walk when they see me in my Harley jacket and chaps!!!" People choose to live many ways they just don't want to choose to accept the consquences of their choices.

I can tell you why and I don’t have to quote the bible. Looking at male sex organs and female sex organs. They are made to compliment each other. .. the men are made to go in the females sex organs. Period. Basic biology.. also. The reason “straight “ sex is not a choice but the way nature intended. Is that in nature. Anything that is meant to exist can recreate itself NATURALLY.. without science. Some species can procreate with them selves but they are made that way. You cannot have two gays or lesbians reproduce NATURALLY and have another one. You need a heterosexual reproduce for that. .. if you take all the gays and put them on one island and all the lesbians and put them on another and let them live happily along. They will be wiped out. enough of an explanation?/

It seems that sex has become paramount in every fiber of our being and existence. One cannot turn on the TV without seeing sexual overtones in even everyday hamburger commercials! Why is that so? I believe that our culture has grown so self-focused that we are now totally consumed with making ourselves feel better in any way possible. That leads to the desire for a bigger and better thrill with no end in sight, and ultimately mood depression when we can find nothing more satisfying to placate our carnal hunger.
This is where sexual deviation and experimentation enters the picture. It is just another rung on the ladder of self-gratification; One that many rest upon and defend as being "perfectly natural". For these, to do otherwise would be to deny a self-pleasure, and self-denial just does not fit in our culture anymore. To verify this line of thought, one must simply ask, "What is the essential reason for ANY sexual behaviour?" To reply anything other that "Procreation" is merely to feed the hungry self-gratification bear within us all. Consider how different the world would be if orgasm were NOT a by-product of copulation.
Personally, I share your stated belief system and also see good in all people. God does not doom man to an eternity of separation. The Bible is chronically clear: He loves the sinner, but despises the sin which puts us in chains and pulls us away from Him and His companionship. If we choose to go another route and pull away from God, we will inevitably and ultimately have to bear the responsibility for that stubborn mindset. That is where we pampered people have huge problems today...accepting ANY responsibility for our actions; even to the extreme of believing in a Heaven, but refusing to believe in the opposite, a Hell. However, common sense would alert most people to the truth that Adolf Hitler and other human animals of his likeness are not sharing eternal bliss with our past family members who have loved and lived for the Lord and are with him now.
Man can try to answer these life-altering questions without using the Bible, but there really is a reason that God's Word still is the biggest seller today. Throw it away, and we throw away our life's road map.
Make sense?

Aside from religion, that debate will go on forever. The "Nurture or Nature" question is typically unprovable from a secular or a religious perspective.

What we do know, it that society resists change, and rejects what it views as "abnormal" or different. Where the feelings come from isn't as important as where those feelings lead to.

Religion offers the only basis of change, or controlling the feelings. Paul's Epistles are full of his testimony of the lives that have been changed.

Once a person hears the Gospel, THEN they are faced with a choice of how to live.

this is got here across at a million Corinthians a million:27-31. Paul exposes sectarianism, exhorts solidarity (a million:a million–4:21). Paul has stable desires for the Corinthians. yet what of the factions, the dissensions, between them? “The Christ exists divided.” (a million:13) The apostle is grateful that he has baptized so few of them, so they can't say they have been baptized in his call. Paul preaches Christ impaled. this may well be a rationalization for stumbling to the Jews and foolishness to the countries. yet God chosen the silly and vulnerable problems with the international to place to shame the smart and strong. So Paul does not use extravagant speech yet shall we the brothers see the spirit and potential of God via his words, that their faith won't be in adult adult males’s know-how yet in God’s potential. We communicate the failings revealed by using God’s spirit, says Paul, “for the spirit searches into all issues, even the deep problems with God.” those won't be able to be understood by using the actual guy yet purely by using the non secular guy.—2:10. straightforward words heavily chosen can effectively positioned across the truths of God’s observe. It does not matter how unimportant one in all Christ’s non secular “brothers” may well be. besides the reality that being the least significant, he's, regardless of the reality that, a “brother” of the King Jesus Christ and is a spirit-begotten son of God, an inheritor certainly of God and a joint inheritor with Christ. (Romans 8:17) no longer one in all Christ’s non secular “brothers” is truthfully one in all the large, significant, renowned ones of this international, the two in the political field or in the non secular clerical field of Christendom, for Christ’s genuine “brothers” are actually not any area of this international, whilst he himself grow to be no area of it. (a million Corinthians a million:26-31; John 15:19; 17:14, sixteen) keep in mind that Jesus did no longer promote himself as a Healer. He healed or perhaps urged those he'd healed to no longer point out IT TO all people what he'd finished for them! (Matthew 8:a million-4) He wanted the attention to be on the message he grow to be proclaiming, God's message. So he confirmed large humility and boasted, as we would desire to continuously, in God.

You are not condemned to hell if you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior. At least that is what I was taught. You can be anyhting as long as you accepted him he will forgive you. You can be Gay BI Les or straight. God loves you so much he will forgive that if only you truly repent and turn from your ways. I love women (i am a guy) it is my temptation and I have sinned. After I turned to the Lord and repented I now believe i am free. Same with anyone else. W/e sin you arein turn from those temptations. And you are saved

I agree with you.I believe that you can't choose to be gay or straight any more than you can choose what is your favorite color, food,or fragrance. It's just something you feel. It's just knowing what makes you happy and having these things or people in your life.I believe that you can't choose who you are attracted to ,you just are.Hey I am attracted to men,the color blue, and the taste of vanilla .No matter what any one thinks that's how it is whether any one agrees with me or not .I don't believe anyone is going to hell for being gay.People should be judged on their character not their sexual preference!

We were born with free will. . .the greatest gift on earth, and here's the real kicker. . .if God created everything in this world, then he also created the option to be "gay" or to be "straight". Life is what you make of it. Choose wisely.
