I'm not saying it's a choice. But definitely not inborn, or else it'd be classified as an illness.
Most scientists agree that gays become gay due to social factors.
Are some people really born with "gay" hormones?

So you made the conscious choice to be straight? If so that implies that you are suppressing your homosexual feelings. Give into temptation, give in to same sex love.

You are the only one who can answer that question, but you were not born homosexual. I don't like the term "gay", because that has a whole different meaning. Homosexual has only one meaning. I believe it is a process, and also believing lies about homosexuality; with the worse one being someone was born a homosexual. No one was ever born a homosexual; and doesn't even know what that means until someone tells them. It is a choice; and it may be based on feelings for the same sex, but I can assure you, the source behind homosexuality is Satan; who wants to destroy mankind. It could run in a family line, with a father, mother, uncle, or even cousin being a homosexual, or even having friends who reveal that they are homosexual. Tell me this; did someone force you to be a homosexual, or did you "choose" to engage in homosexual activities? Homosexuality is a choice, just as being heterosexual is also a choice. It is possible that you or others who struggle with homosexuality or even thoughts about it are being tormented by Satan, and need deliverance, and God is always ready and willing to set anyone free from the spirit of homosexuality; if you desire to be free from it. If not, you are free to choose to remain a homosexual, but remember this, God has a far better life for you than that, and wants to bless you with joy, peace, and prosperity; and even the perfect wife if you desire marriage and maybe a family. Yes, the choice is always yours, and God will never force you against your will; but remember this, He love you, and is always a prayer away. Romans 10:8-10 is how anyone can be born again.

Actually, what defines an illness is the presence of a harmful dysfunction. Because homosexuality is neither inherently harmful nor dysfunctional, it cannot be classified as an illness, regardless of its origin.

I don't know where you've been getting your information, but as a social scientist with an advanced degree in the study of human behavior, I'm pretty confident in saying that your understanding of the scientific consensus is mistaken.

Researchers are constantly finding evidence linking biological factors to sexual orientation. There appear to be significant differences in certain neuroanatomical structures, for instance, and the way the brain responds to sexual stimuli (e.g., gay male brains respond to male pheromones in a similar manner as a heterosexual woman's brain). Differential hormone exposure in the womb seems to play a part as well, as does birth order (but only if the mother has had other male offspring).

Does this rule out the influence of social factors? Of course not. As with almost any human behavior or characteristic, development happens through a complex interplay of biological and environmental factors: nature via nurture.

What does it matter? We all have the right to love and to choose the objects of our love freely, so long as we stick to adult humans.

I'm a bi woman. I have a huge crush on Tony Stewart, a NASCAR driver with a short, stocky build and dark hair. My father was...a dirt track racecar driver with a short, stocky build and dark hair. Had my mother married the blond medical student she was engaged to before meeting my father, I probably wouldn't feel the way I do about Tony Stewart. Does that make my attraction to him wrong? Or is it just my environment at work, something that would be perfectly fine for a straight girl?

Keep going. If environment affected my desire for my wife, and it might have, does that make my attraction to *her* wrong? A lot of people who make this argument say it does and it should be corrected. But why? Nobody's getting hurt, and two people are happy with each other.

Look at effect more than cause, and you will see that there's nothing wrong with gayness or biness in and of itself.

There is no such thing as born gay. And there is no gay hormones. It's always a choice. They love a person of the same sex. Even you could be gay when a day comes when you love a same sexed person. Loving someone is your choice so being gay is up to you and you only.

What will happen when we find out the exact reason people are gay?

Will it lessen the persecution to any degree?

Do you really think it's worth finding out "why", or would you rather just live in the "what now"?

Sorry to answer with three questions, but I feel like this whole "nature v. nurture" debate is just the pinnacle of futility.

Discussin this is idiocy. Like it matters any.

One gay guy I know says he was born that way....fine with me.

Another gay guy I know said he became gay and was once straight...still fine with me.

I like both of those guys just the same. They are both nice guys with decent personalities. In fact I woulda never even known they were gay except they told me.

So really what does it matter how someone got to be gay?

u have it backwards. science has been saying in the past few years that people are born gay. there is a gene that causes your homones to be different and so that results in homosexuality or bisexuality or heterosexuality. bcuz genetics are the roots of our sexuality/hormones, meaning we do not "become" anything, we are conceived and born with our sexuality.

Please site your sources.

May I remind you that these must also be peer reviewed and accredited scientific sources, not religious heresay disguised as science.

Thank you.

(You do realize that there's no scientific proof one way or the other in regards to handed-ness, but it's a well accepted THEORY that it's inborn? I don't see any big anti-lefty movements going on. ONCE AGAIN, religious fanatics have choosen their battles...ones they only ASSUME they can win, but science will ALWAYS win! [ie..Earth is ROUND, Earth is NOT the Center of the Universe]...those ring any bells?)

You have it backwards. The scientists are saying we are born this way. That suports the idea of 'i always knew'.

It would not be classified as an ilness, since it is not one.

Please be so kind as to point out the studies that state what you're saying. I have not seen anything like that.
I know I was born gay, if you don't like, Tough, deal with it.
I don't interfere with who you go to bed with, what care is it of yours who I go to bed with. Before you state something as fact, have the resources to back up your argument. Otherwise SHUT UP.
