In Serena Williams postmatch news conference (French Open 2007), she after losing to Justin Henin was reluctant to credit her.

She said "Nothing worked today. Sometimes you just have days like that. All she (Justine Henin) had to do was show up."

Comments like this from her who is a "professional" athlete makes her look like she came from a wild uncivilized jungle people.

No matter how much talent you've got, if you don't know how to accept defeat, might as well not join in the game. Because you leave a bitter taste to the whole sports entertainment.

Typical Williams sisters response. If they beat you, YOU were playing your BEST and were simply beaten by a superior athlete.

If you beat them, it's because they played poorly and let you win. Just like today. To quote Serena: "All she had to do was show up," Williams said. "I just pretty much stood back and let her take advantage of me."

Responded Henin: "It's her opinion. I thought I just did a good job. And I just see it from my point of view, and I did everything I could to control the match."

Bravo Justine. Maybe Serena, just maybe, you played poorly because Justine's play made you play poorly. Nah, that can't possibly be the case! :)

Serena and Justine are both legends in the making! They're rivalry down the track might even rival Federer-Nadal on the ATP tour. Serena and Justine are both fierce competitors, and i noticed both of them do not like to praise the opponent mainly blaming they're own mistakes for their loss. I think they should both praise the opponents when they lose however they're competitive nature makes them that way. Like when Serena blamed herself for the loss, the fact is Henin just outplayed her and forced her to play bad tennis. She never allowed Serena into the match. But as i said, i rekon theyre both legends in the making. They're both super competitive, never give up, both could possibly win all the grand slams and they both have had tough pasts. They could both dominate the womens field over the next few years, though depending on how players like Jankovic, Sharapova, Ivanovic, and the rest can develop mentally because mentally, Serena and Justine are the best by far.

For so long, i've been defending these girls on accusations like these.

Yes, I do agree to a very small extent that she should've atleast bring up the good job Justine did. But let's face it, we've seen how good she can play (especially recently), so what are we arguing? She obviously didn't play well, so why are we trying to put words into her mouth. She said she didnt play well, and Justine pushed her around the court. Is that a surprise? We saw it with our own eyes. We know it as much as she knows it, so why get mad because she brings it up.

If we were to see a match where they were both playing outstanding and Justine were to still win, then I KNOW that Serena would have said "You win some you lose some. She was just the better player today", or something along those lines. But to see FIRSTHAND that she obviously wasn't playing well, and then hear her talk about it, and then have the balls to bring up how she has a LACK OF RESPECT? Come on people, let's not embarrass ourselves with comments like that.

Please, use you're brain before you say things like this. And let's remember....PLEASE... she's not even close to being the only one who does this.... so let's stop acting like she is.

P.S. - I completely agree with K. Let's not forget how unforgivable Justine acted during their match a few years ago. That had to have been one of the most disrespectful thing i've ever seen.

Jonathan L - Do you WATCH tennis at all? Do you know who she is? Well, if you did, you know that she's played better competitors the Justine and played better during those matches...HENCE her saying that she didnt play well. She's earned the reputation of being one of the most dominate and controlling players, so I think her point of view is right. All Justine had to do was show up. PERIOD. I don't know how, after watching the match(as im hoping you did) can sit there and argue that her thinking she didnt play well is an excuse. SHE DIDNT PLAY WELL.... WE ALL SAW. She's beaten Justine multiple times and there's few, if any, players who can push her around the court, so I think her point of view is quite justified. Correct if i'm wrong...........please

Actually that would be Jelena Jankovic. She hates opponents who are prettier than her and you'll definitely hear some "unprofessional" comments from Jankovic when she loses to Henin tomorrow, like she always does.

Henin has struck the nerve of more than one tennis player apart from Jankovic and Serena. Several other players on the WTA don't like her because she doesn't correct the umpire when her opponent's in shots are called out.

What's wrong with Serena's reply? These types of untelligent comments about jungle people and the like, only underscores how much these sisters are despised by white america. McEnroe threw tantrums, flung rackets, etc. and now they've made a commercial out of it. As americans, we should be organizing a complete booing section at the US Open if Henin plays, to teach the French a lesson.

You can continue to be ignorant and believe that 2 people represent a group made up of millions. It's not my problem. I'm smart enough to realize they don't represent me or the black community. Does Jeffery Dahmer represent whites? What about the Son of Sam? Does the V-tech guy represent all Asians? Does Osama Bin Laden represent all Muslims or middle easterners?

Very good point.
Tennis requires much more mental strength than most sports and its easy to get caught up in blaming yourself for losing but as a mature competitor you have to make an effort to look at the other factors and give credit when due.

I'd like to see more of these players play doubles, that may make them all little less self-centered, especially the women.

This is old news. Those sisters have been that way ever since they came out. If they win, they say a few nice things about their opponent and their games. If they lose, they don't praise anything about their opponent. Then they would say "It wasn't my day out there" or "I made too many errors and if those shots had gone in then that would have made the difference." FALSE. Besides, to be a champion means that you play a great game and pull off your game plan while NOT making errors.

Also, you can't just sit out many months and just show up at grand slams. That is ruining tennis and history and robbing others of a moment. The real champions are the ones constantly on tour grinding it out week after week while producing great results and winning, and then winning slams - all while not getting ill or injured. That's a champion.

The girls who beat them play really well and are superior in game, that's why they loss. Those sisters always act like it's up to them to win the match, not the opponent. False again. And then the american media, they always say these kinds of things too just because they're desperate for american stars which are lacking now that Davenport retired. I wish Chanda Rubin rose up and did not get injured, because she would have been a great ambassador for American tennis. But that's another story.

Those sisters are not rocket science. The only reason why they were up there in the early 2000s, was because they were new and not many girls knew how to play them yet. And the tour had been so used to great, natural games with power, grace and variety from the Graf-Sanchez Vicario-Novotna-Pierce-Seles era, and then suddenly Venus and Serena appears with unelegant, unnatural painful overhitting with no spirit in the style. And TOO MANY unforced errors. You can see examples of this just by watching matches of the sisters playing each other. Ugly stuff.

But, a few years later, the rest of the tour caught up and improved and also adapted naturally to the sisters games. Also, a lot of natural talents are coming up. This is what the sisters seem to not accept or want to deal with today - and their losses prove this. Natural power with grace and variety will always prevail. With total class and sportsmanship. That is what tennis is about.

Wow. People need to stop acting as though she's the only athlete in the history of sports to do this. So she didn't kiss Justine's a** in the press room. Oh well Boo hoo. She gave Justine some credit and after the match and she said really good job to her when they shool at the net. Is she out there flinging racquets around? Is she taking bathroom breaks and eating bananas to break her opponents momentum? Is she over there cursing out chair umpires? NO. Of course she's forced to be her number 1 fan - because of people like you.

I completely agree. I watched that interview and thought to myself: typical Serena. She's been doing it forever. Even when she beats players 6-2, 6-3 she'll make some remark that she was playing horrible and was not happy at all. Its annoying. Today, Henin was better than her and she shouldnt make up any excuses.
