by assigning a sex prefrance onto an animal, we are assigning a human feature onto an animal. Saying an animal is gay is like saying it is trying to read when it is playing with a book, the animal may look like its trying to read, but in reality its doing an arbitray animal behavior.
There may be homosexual animals, but it would in no way represent the concept that humans have of homosexuality, as humans are the only animal that mates for fun and conciously selects their mates. I'm not saying that humans choose their sexuality, but we can rationalize about sexuality and fall in love, which animals can not. An animal can not 'fall in love' in the same sense of humans, it can get a strong bond with another animal, but it's not in love, as it cant reason and make an informed conclusion of its feelings towards another.
There was a study examining homosexual rats, this study was as good as useless. They counted any male rat that would try and mate with any other male as homosexual. Same for female rats. You cant say these rats were homosexual, as they were most likely mounting the other rat as a sign of dominance rather than a sign of sexual attraction.

Animals may exhibit homosexual behaviors, but humans are the only animals who form long-term, monogamous relationships with people of the same sex. Like said above, we are the only animals that have the ability to fall in love. But as a correction, humans are not the only animals that mate for fun- Bonobos do too!
