What do people do with infant carseats if they only have a two seater car or a truck? My father is going to be watching my daughter while I take college courses and we were wondering if he could put her in the front seat of his car as long as he put her backwards and turned off the airbag? I have heard that cops can't pull you over for it cause you have no other option...but I am wondering if there is any evidence of if it is as safe as the backseat...
I heard that carseats HAVE to be in the backseat of the car because of the airbag...so will turning if off make the front seat as safe? Or comparable at least?

Go watch videos of airbags being deployed, hitting the car seat at 200 MPH. You would NEVER ever think about doing that. **
I said twice that I will have the airbag turned off...

Yes it is still safe, but make sure the airbag is turned OFF... I have a little 2 seater truck and had my son's infant seat facing backwards and got into a minor accident and everything was just fine. Just make sure the carseat is either in its base, which makes it even safer yet, or is strapped in very tight with the seatbealt. The backseat is the safest, but with precautions the front is safe as well.. You do what you have to in situations like these.

No, the front seat is not *as safe* as the backseat, even with the airbag shut off. The backseat, rear-facing is the safest place for ANY passenger.
BUT, since that is not an option for you, I would first look at leaving a safer vehicle with your father, so your child will have a safer ride. Or at telling your father not to take the child on errands / outing that cannot be walked to.
IF he absolutely MUST take the child out, ensuring the he will ALWAYS turn the airbag off, and ALWAYS install the carseat properly, then it will be as safe as possible in the circumstances.

I drive a truck with a bench seat in the back, but when my daughter and I go anywhere that takes a bit to get to, I put her in the front seat, airbag switched off. I have been told by several officials that this is safe. I do it because she isnt too crazy about cars, and seeing Mom's face really helps her relax.
The middle of the car is always the safest, but if that is your option, that is what you do. Im curious to know what kind of carseat you have, does it have side impact protection? This can help.

Just make sure the airbag is turned off. The back seat is always safer. But it is ok to have them in a truck, with airbag off.

I even have carried my daughter in a motor vehicle seat in the two one in all my 2 seater automobiles a Solstice GXP with a 4 celebrity crash try score and a Fiero GT with a 5 celebrity crash try score. The Fiero has no airbags and the Solstice senses the burden of the passenger and turns the airbag off. no longer purely is it risk-free to hold little ones this variety this is actual safer by physics. once you're low to the floor and are sitting low in case you get right into a front end collision there is way less rigidity exerted on the motor vehicle seat as detrimental to a severe driving SUV opposite to commonplace concept.
