Solve for y:
-3x + y = 1
y = 1 + 3x

Substitute for y in second equation:
5x + 2(1 + 3x) = -4

Simplify:
5x + 2 + 6x = -4
11x = -6
x = -6/11

Plug this into either formula, we'll pick first:
5(-6/11) + 2y = -4
-30/11 + 2y = -4
-30 + 22y = -44
22y = -14
y = -14/22 = -7/11

Check:
x= -6/11
y= -7/11

-3(-6/11) + (-7/11) = 1
18/11 - 7/11 = 1
TRUE

5(-6/11) + 2(-7/11) = -4
-30/11 + -14/11 = -4
-44/11 = -4
TRUE

You are done, the answers are:
x= -6/11
y= -7/11
And the ordered pair would be:
(-6/11, -7/11)

-3x + y = 1
5x + 2y = -4

In the first equation, solve for y by adding 3x to both sides:
y = 3x + 1
Plug 3x + 1 in for y in the second equation:
5x + 2(3x + 1) = -4
Distribute:
5x + 6x + 2 = -4
Solve for x:
11x = -6
x = -6/11
Plug -6/11 in for x in the first equation:
-3(-6/11) + y = 1
Solve for y:
18/11 + y = 1
y = 11/11 - 18/11
y = -7/11

bottom line: x = -6/11; y = -7/11

y = 3x + 1
5x + 2.(3x + 1) = - 4
11x = - 6
x = - 6 / 11
y = - 18/11 + 11/11
y = - 7 / 11
Solution
x = - 6 / 11 , y = - 7 / 11

it's v easy man
y=1+3x
substitute in the other eq'n
5x+2+6x=-4
11x=-6
x=-6/11
then substitute this value in any of the 2 eq'ns to find y
y=1+3*(-6/11)
