As we all know that Jaffer is used to slow indian pitches and he is also a forward backfoot stroke player, so it will be hard for him to face the fast bowlers of england at their fast pitches..

I think Jaffer will be succesful at the English pitches than Gambhir but they will both struggle there.

Neither. Gambhir hasn't played much in England, Jaffer is a suspect in what Geoffrey Boycott calls "the corridor of uncertainty." While Jaffer will be keeping the slippers busy in the test series, Gambhir will keep the umpires stretching out by raising their fingers for LBWs. But we don't have any other option. Sehwag has proved to be a failure, so you have to take your best option, i.e., Gambhir and Jaffer. But these two are not capable of thwarting the England new ball bowlers. We have to get used to being 20 for 2 and hope that Dravid and the rest of the middle order strike.

Jaffer has more patience than Gambhir though. Gambhir starts of well and then throws away his wicket. Jaffer is reverse - shaky starter, but once he gets going, he is virtually unstoppable.

Technically, both our openers have a lot to improve technically. England pitches have been a graveyard for many Indian openers last time when India went there, Jaffer scored 5 and 0 i the first test and he was dropped for the reminder.

But for now Jaffer if India's best opener (avg: 45) if you ask me.

I think jaffer will be successful in England pitches.Jaffer is Dravid type player who firsts stay at the wicket for sometime and start playing shots whereas gambhir is attacking type player and i don't think the pitches in england will suite his batting style.Jaffer is also more technically sound than gambhir.

I think Jaffer has a better chance for the same reasons in my opinion. Gambhir is not ghambhir like Sehwag and therefore he is less likely to do well in England.

While both will struggle in English pitches, I feel Jaffer will be better off as he is a more experienced opening batsman.
