It depends on what I'm looking for. I need something that is a one time use then the dollar store is the way to go. If I need something to last a little longer than I'll pay more, in the end it will save you money and aggravation. Your time and effort are worth something. It's better to get what you truly need than to spend time and effort constantly replacing inferior material.
A lot of times the dollar store actually has name brand stuff too, loss leaders from other stores.It doesn't hurt to look and it may save you in the end.

I guess all I'm saying is get what you need from where it will best suit you. It's stupid to be penny wise and pound foolish.
