When I was growing up I thought that by the time I was the age I am now it would be common place for us to be traveling in outer space, have air driven cars and live in totally computer driven homes...since there are only tiny little pockets owned by individuals where any of this can be found then I would say that the robots depicted in I Robot is still many decades if not centuries down the road.
We don't have air cars because they would take money away from the oil based big money corps who are very sure that they will get to take it all with them when they die.
We don't live in computer driven houses because the electronic gadgets are better sold in small disposable versions which have to be replaced every year or so and which allow the electronic based power driven money hungry corps to amass their wealth at prodigious rates.
And we haven't been back to the moon or anywhere else because according to more and more "sources" we were really never there in the first place and the big show was put on the get our minds of the pending taking over of communism back in the day.. We are probably right on target for where we should be from a technological point of view and space travel will be for the unmanned canned cameras with fancy "You've got Mail" capabilities for some time to come. Because as long as we have a war to fight somewhere in the world, humans would rather kill each other than spend money exploring "other planets"...
So just maybe your great great great grandchildren will be able to do the I Robot thing...lets just hope they don't have to worry about the bad guys trying to take over and for sure Will Smith won't be around to fix things if they do.

Did you not see the yahoo web page as you logged onto the
website? Ofcourse the rise of the robots is bound to happen.
eventually in the future future we'll all be having a robot war.
It's common sense. the government always wants things to fight their dirty work for them. Eventually they'll reanimate George W. Bush's Brain in a robot body so he can continue
to Dictate across the world with other pointless wars and lives
lost. You think that's bad? wait till you see when the aliens and
Ufos come out and play. they got technology so advanced the
robot ufo can think for itself and optionally the alien as well as
the human can controll it with their mind. america already has
technology far superior than a stupid robot. they just withold
it from the public. that's just the tip of the Ice Berg. america is
packing all types of neat stuff they deny, deny, deny simply
because they do not want to tell us. man, i wish i could tell you everything and beyond, man. basically america knows more than they say.

it's definately coming, it's just a matter of time. the question is whether or not it'll come in our lifetime.
Jimithy: "It will never happen. I'd like a future where crappy movies like I Robot don't exist."
i would like to remind jimithy of the fact that 100 years ago, people would have laughed at ideas such as cars, mobile phones, the internet and its capabilities, televisions, etc... history has proven that the impossible may one day be turned into reality... and robots are already becoming a reality, it's just in the early stage. i would say that robots would start to spread in the world (as they are seen in "i robot") in less than 50 years.
"I'd like a future where crappy movies like I Robot don't exist."
because movies like superman and spiderman are more realistic? (i'm referring to your picture that shows you wearing a superman shirt)

well just as of today the Japanese have invented a robot that has 36 different facial expressions in response to 500,000 words. I Robot does seem viable in the not so distant future.

Future is only conjecture So all things are possible.
However, Much Much More important is the fact that
we create our own reality.........Physics says all matter and all
space between matter consists of interactive consciousness
energy. These micro particles come together in consciousness to create or form something we visualize as
matter. Thus Though/Consciousness Creates. If we think it then
it can be our reality...however as in the larger picture of our
world 51% of the whole of humanity must agree with the thought and see it as reality to make it so.

Robots are not uncommon. They make cars and make coffee in the morning. I believe you are interested in androids. And I do not think we will see them roaming around anytime soon. I am sure they will be expensive, I don't allow expensive things I own to be in the street unattended.
