For the uninformed, the Uniform Code of Military Justice, which applies to all members of the military, states, quite unequivocally, that no political actions are allowed while in uniform. Nor is disrespectful behavior towards a superior. Period. It applies to everybody; liberals are not exempt.

There is also a rule prohibiting speaking out against the Commander in Chief. It is this rule that kept a significant number of military from speaking out about their contempt for the President from January 1993 to January 2001.

So, your "hero" broke basic rules of the military and is punished. Not sure why you let that get your panties in a twist.

Read the story, for breaking the UCMJ which governs military service he was let of rather light... and for a Marine

Quote from the story
After a hearing Monday before an administrative separation board at the Marine Corps Mobilization Command, the panel decided not to recommend an other-than-honorable discharge , choosing instead the general discharge.

"This is a nonpunitive discharge," said Col. Patrick McCarthy, chief of staff for the mobilization command. "The most stringent discharge that could have been received is other than honorable, and the board chose to raise that up to a general discharge."

The military doesn't punish liberal clear your bias and read the story.

He's not being punished for being liberal, he's bing punished for breaking a military rule . . .

Did you read this entire story or just the section that you wanted saying that he's a liberal, the military is punishing him? Why do Liberals think that they are above the law, and that they are being singled out as liberals when they get caught??!?!

When you are in, you don't have an opinion. You obey the orders of the NCOs and officers appointed over you. That's the main reason the generals that spoke out did so after they retirement. It wasn't cowardice, they were following long-established protocols.

He is being punished for wearing his uniform while doing the protest. We in the military can protest, only if we don't wear the uniform. We have freedom of speech like anyone else, however, we have to watch what we say when in uniform. He respresented the Marine Corp by wearing the uniform.

Members of the military are not supposed to speak up, insubordination and mutiny are not what we want from our military. However, it's not clear that this reservist was in violation of the regulations. But it's crystal clear that the Army wants to use him as an example.

No the military is supposed to remain unpolitical. Members of the military are not supposed to speak out because they could be taken as speaking for the rest of the military.

The armed forces is all about not having an individual mind, just following the orders from above, which of course, it has to be in order to be effective. Which is also why you won't find a lot of people with an independent mind in the military.

He's not being punished for being a liberal , he's being punished for violating military rules by the way he used his GOVERNMENT ISSUED uniform as well as his disrespect to a Superior officer...he should have been court marshaled on those alone.

You have obviously never served...this Regulation has been in place for many years, so that means this is not new...he knew about it, it is taught in Basic Training, so he had no excuse...actually I think his punishment should be harsher, but that is me...I hated Bill Clinton, but if I had went out in Uniform to protest him...the same thing would have happened to me...would there had been a out cry from the Left on that one? Probably not...
