Feeling lonely in a crowded room, being alone (not by choice) or wanting to be alone but being constantly surrounded?

Being alone when its not by choice. The other two are rough, but you can change them...you can leave the room for relief. Being alone when its not a choice can mean that you may have tried to change your loneliness to no avail.

Being alone when it's not by choice.

If you're alone in a crowd, you're still not technically alone, and even though people have trouble socializing, at least you still have the option. Wanting to be alone but being constantly surrounded is a temporary thing. Nobody is in a crowd 24 hours per day, and at some point, you can still find your "me" time.

When you're forced to be alone it's a different story. People need interaction. Even if you don't like your family, most of us still like to know that they're there. You can develop psychological problems if you're isolated for too long as well.

In my opinion, wanting to be alone but being constantly surrounded would be worse. You can reach out to someone in that crowded room. You can reach out to someone when you are alone and change that too. But being constantly surrounded...if you can't get away, would be a nightmare. I have great sympathy and respect for celebrities because most of them must have security guards-and they practically never get to be completely alone. It's got to be almost maddening!

Feeling lonely in a crowd can happen a lot, but you can fix that by being social. Being alone w/o choice is bad, but wanting to be alone, but no one letting you is the worst, because you can't escape when you know you can't deal with a crowd at the moment.

Best of Luck

From my personal experience: being alone in a crowded room.

Being annoyed because people won't leave you alone is bad, but feeling unloved and unwanted even though there are lots of people around is awful.

However, maybe it's different for other people. I'm open to the possibility.

On a side note - the song "Dark Blue" by Jacks Mannequin is a good one.

I think all of them invoke the same feeling of inner isolation. That said, I would say not being able to be alone when you want to be. I am ok with being alone. I have no problem whipping out a book or my I-Pod or people watching. It gets hard when you want some time alone and never finding it.
