Shouldn't "Jesus said. . ."
or "The Bible says. . ."
automatically disqualify somebody from commenting on politics? Don't we know how to be decent human beings without a poorly written collection of different writers' interpretations of ancient middle eastern superstitions?
Why is belief, without any basis in fact, some kind of acid test for the presidency? Why do we kill other people for not believing in the right invisible omniscient being that no one has ever seen and no proof of which exists?

libsR4kids: Do you mean histroy like the Inquisition? I'm sure that there were plenty of burned heretics that would disagree with you.

Layne and crimson: You are telling me that these are facts. I say that understanding the personal morals of a man through a 2000 year screen and from a book that has been translated and retranslated, at the whims of kings and church leaders is hard to do.

Phillip: No one is hating anyone. My real question is why do you believe what cannot be proven, with absolutely no evidence?

Bigman: You relish the thought of me suffering in front of a supreme being? Why would a god who loves me make the road to his good graces so completely incompatable with reality or reason? Why do I have to believe wholeheartedly in a proposition that can have no evidence?
Was I created and given logic and reason only to be damned for using them?

Toshiio, you miss my point. I would argue that the first candidate to say "I am an atheist," or even "I am an agnostic" will be the first one reviled and effectively out of the race. Why? Why is belief without evidence a job requirement to lead the free world?
The 9/11 hijackers were mostly from Saudi Arabia, by the way. Iraq had as much to do with that attack as Athens, Georgia.

Zebra:
How do we pick and choose from an "infallable" text? Do we really have to kill people for drawing pictures?
How about we don't kill one another because we know as human beings that killing is wrong. We don't steal because we know it's wrong. We don't torture, rape and pillage because it's wrong.
It's wrong not because some book says so, but because we are thinking beings with compassion toward one another.
Call it "golden rule-ism."
If the bible is all that keeps you from murdering, then you should fully understand a suicide bomber whose text tells him he should murder.

First of all, if you think we are at war because of oil or because the other side is muslim, you are sadly misaken. Second, God knows EVERYTHING. He knew 10 billion years ago that our govt would be like it is today. He gives everyone free will. he gives you free will not to believe in Him. he gives me free will to believe in Him. the sole reason you are on earth is to worship God and acknowledge His existance. if you choose not to, then so be it, God will let you but he always gives perfect justice. Those who dont believe in Him will be sorry once they die. just a little warning.

"Why is belief, without any basis in fact, some kind of acid test for the presidency?"
You say it has no basis in fact because you have never taken the time to research it and find the facts that support it. If you have, you only looked at biased articles written by those you agree with.
We do not kill for the Bible. We are in the war because we don't want another 9/11 or worse. If you do, thats fine, its your opinion. I don't though.

Because without many of the teaching of Jesus Christ ALL PEOPLE would be doing whatver they felt was best for them thier families, the world and the issues would have no actual founding base on anything.
Do all people think alike NO, you might think a drunk or drug addict in the street needs money and a room other's might think he is a waste and leave him thier, the GOOD SAMARITAN is a teaching from the bible no NOT everyone has a good and decent heart but the bible helps many how to live civilized and with compassion for people they might have no regard for otherwise.

Even IF Jesus didn't exist, if those written words are wise and lead in a correct direction, they should be repeated.
History teaches lessons also. Shouldn't we pay attention to history?
The HATE directed toward people of faith leads to DISASTER, just like any other HATE.
Please don't fall into that trap!

As history can attest to, the answer is emphatically... NO! We don't know how to be good decent human beings without the teachings of the Bible incorporated into our society. A great example is communist USSR and Europe. Look what happened during those most tumultuous times when they eliminated God from their society.

Well older words say, thou shalt not kill. Can I blow that off also? All our laws pretty much reflect old things from previous times. Maybe we should just throw out all laws.
