Have you any ideas who would make a good president for Britain if it was a republic? Would you vote in the Queen? Would someone from the world of sport, music, film, politics?

Much as i hate to say it, we already are a Republic, in that although there is a head of state (the queen) the real power of making laws and policies and enacting them are carried out by an elected group representing the people (in theory) that is to Say Parliment, with a Governmental leader (the Prime Minister)

Its just that our head of state is such for life by hereditary right but thats not too unusual, and the Queen has powers which by tradition and good sense are never used, though the ability to just Veto any act of Parliment should it be just that bad or wrong is in there just in case,

Most of Europe and America go for an Elected Head of State (President or what ever they want to call themselves)
who usually serves a limited number of years before being replaced,

Now if i assume you were asking if we had an elected head of state who would it be
(and presuming that they would have more power than the queen currently does or use the power rather than not)
Id probably go for the Queen anyway as so far she has done a pretty good job (no worse than any other i can think of) and has remained absolutly neutral throughout her reign favouring no side above the other,

Anyone else who might run i wouldnt trust
Anyone i might trust wouldnt want to run
Hell why let one person do it anyway, in san marino and switzerland the 'president' is in fact a small committe

Elections are not always a good thing, some of the worst leaders in history got there through being elected

that said hereditry isnt always a good thing either,

It would have to be political figure with plenty of experience in the arena of government, perhaps a member of the house of lords.
