I would like to take a trip across America. Leaving from Boston, MA traveling to LA California. Any idea how long that takes?

We went from Colorado to Maryland straight through in about 32 hours. Go to a site like Mapquest and enter in your start and destination. It will calculate the approximate amount of time and miles for travel.

http://www.mapquest.com

When I entered in Boston to Los Angeles it gave me this:
Total Est. Time: 44 hours, 17 minutes Total Est. Distance: 2985.97 miles

Be sure to add in time for stops (food, restroom, traffic, lost) into your time table. We recently drove to Orlando and Mapquest stated: Total Est. Time: 15 hours, 50 minutes Total Est. Distance: 1005.19 miles. But it actually took us about 17 hours.

Also, if you are not driving but rather taking a bus, etc. that will add considerably to your time. When I went by bus over 1,000 miles it actually took me over 30+ hours with all the stops the bus made plus the layover time at the terminals. If you are going by bus it is best to price it online and they should give you estimated times of departure and arrival. http://www.greyhound.com They estimate Boston to LA as being over around 3 days 4 hours.

If you are driving by yourself, you may want to schedule an overnight stop or two somewhere along your route as driving straight to California by yourself would not be feasible since it is over 40 hours of driving. So you would need to factor that in as well.

My friend and I are making a trip from Virginia Beach to Venice Beach LA this summer and we are allowing 7 days. It all depends on what you want to do and what roads you want to take. If you need to just get there then take interstate 40 as far as you can and then branch off towards LA. I have done the trip in 3.5 days but it was no bueno. I suggest taking your time and enjoying all that a road trip across the states can offer.

Good luck

About 3000 miles. I'd allow at least 30 days if you're on a bicycle and in good shape.
