I have a new house with tape and textured walls and I want to hook up a evap. window cooler it is hot, but not at the risk of ruining my walls.

Haved used evap cooler for years. No problem as long as walls are painted. Coolers are usually effective during low humidity times only.

Read the answer above and it is correct. Be sure the paint you use is water repellent, not porous.
A word of CAUTION.
As noted the evaporative coolers are effective ONLY in DRY climates.
Excess moisture creates an environment conducive to the growth of MOLD.
If the walls get damp, discontinue use of the cooler until they are dry.
