My father died this past week after battling pancreatic cancer. My husband and I are thinking about trying to have a baby. I would like to have a part of my father's name in the baby's name. His name was Rick Alan (1st and middle name). If we have a boy, my decision is simple. If it's a girl, I'm not sure how to incorporate my father's name into her name. To use Alan, I thought about Alana. Any other ideas? Thank you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's wonderful that you want to honor your father by naming your baby after him. For a girl's name, you could go with something like Rickie Alana or even something like Lana Ricki or maybe Ricky Alayna. Any combination would be nice and would still carry your father's memory. May he rest well and best of luck to you all!!

So sorry about your Dad. My Dad died of abdominal cancer in 1995, and I still miss him, so I know how hard it can be.

I really love the name Alayna because that is my youngest granddaughter's name. Her full name is Alayna Kate, but we usually call her Laynie. I listed a whole lot of choices here for you to look at:

** Alana **

The bright fair one, the beautiful child. Derived from a word that is used as a term of endearment by the Irish. The feminine form of Alan.

Ranked #304 of the last decade and #200 of 2003

Origin: Irish Gaelic
Gender: Girl

** Alternatives **
Alaine

Alanna

Alina

Allene

Allie

Elaine

So sorry to hear about your father! Here are some thoughts:

"Rick"-
Ricky, Ricky, Rikki, Rickie, or Ericka

"Alan"-
Alana, Alayna, Alaina, Alina, Alanis, Lana, Layne, Elaine, or Elana

My favorite combo would probably be Ericka Elaine, but you and your husband will need to find the name that best fits you and your little one.

Best wishes to you on trying to have a baby. I'm sure no matter what you name your child/ children, you can pass on the memories and legacy of your daddy!

See that is what I did with my daughter my great grandma's name is Eva May so I named my daughter Taylor May.

Humm that is kinda hard for a girl .... my mother's middle name is Jo which is more for a guy so I guess if you couldn't think of anything you could do at least a middle name that is Alan. (She wouldn't like it but she also wouldn't have to tell anyone if she didn't want to)
I would do the Alana if you want too.

Howw about Ricky? I have meant several girls with the first name of Ricky... You could use a super girlie frist name and pair it with Ricky as the middle name. I think that would be a cute idea... Or you could go with Alana, and Alayna or something like that... But I like my idea better! :)

Good Luck! And I am very sorry to hear about your father...

Alana is very cute and uncommon. I also like:
Rachael Alan
Whitney Alan
Elane
Rickelle

I think Alan could be used for a middle name for a girl, kinda sounds cute.

For verisons of Rick: Rianna, Ria, Riona, Rickesha, Rina, Rimona.

For versions of Alan: Alaina, Alaura, Alana, Alara, Alanna.

Any name would be honoring your father because it is him you are thinking of when you name your child.
