I have a $10 bill that ripped in half. Will the bank/my credit union swap a new one for me, or am I out $10.

As long as the serial numbers on the two halves match, your bank will replace your money. In fact, even if you don't have all the pieces, as long as you have 51% of a bill or more, you can get it replaced at any bank (thus, the other 49% is useless and you can't double-dip).

can tape it and use it so long as both halfs have same serial number.
