Get a leader that listens and cares more about the people of that country instead of having his/her own agenda.

The main reason that most people believe we went to Iraq is oil (I believe it as well). We HAD to get Suddam, right? Why not go to the famed Ethiopia and fix THEIR country instead of seeing Sally Struthers on television late at night when nobody really watches.

I did that program for a little bit until I found out how much of the money those poor people actually get to feed themselves. If you send a dollar, they get about 3 cents. (Remember the law: It can be legally called an organization -such as United Way- as long as they give a certain percentage. The rest is profit. And the percentage is very low.)

Good politicians with bright ideas easily become corrupt. We had someone who just turned 18 and got voted mayor (it was in the news, don't know if you remember). Haven't heard from him since? He's being like the rest of them now.

Since when does politicians and the goverment of rich nations care when they get so much money?

It's really sad.

But as for the humanitarian things that we supposedly do for other countries, it's not really enough to make a dent. And these are usually groups that WANT to make a difference. Our supplies don't get captured by the rebels (stop watching movies to whoever said that one). It's just in such a low quantity because so little money gets to them that they can't get the help and supplies the humanitarian groups need. But, that's a NON-profit (a true non-profit) organization that arranges most of that and that's why the big bucks don't roll in for it.

Remember when Iraq fell and companies like Microsoft, Dell, etc were rolling on in? There was profit to be made. Poor countries don't have the money to buy their stuff so who really cares about them now, right? Tsunami hit Japan and we sent billions upon billions of dollars to help them. We trade with them and their a rich country. Why can't we do the same for other countries?

Profit... that's all there is to it.

(Most of it is by my personal bias but if you research it, you'll see it's backed up by fact.)

I think it is hard to get the existing government to do so if they are not doing it already. Politicians are hard to convince, especially if there is nothing that will benefit them. I think it is better for the people to vote for a government that already support such idea before they come into power. But do take note that politician do promise you everything and some may not deliver in the end. It is a very hard problem, otherwise, there will be no poor countries anymore. See US today, it used to enjoy trillions of surplus, and now it is trillions in deficit. The president and the vice-president who are in the oil business keep making all kind of excuses to go into wars with countries with oil. Afghanistan is really because of terrorist. Iraq is for oil. Iran will be for oil if it ever start. North Korea...no oil, no war. Now, US has the greatest debt in the world, rising crime rate, unstable economy that many predict housing bubble in a matter of time, stagflation coming, etc. See here...US, the developed country needs help herself. I think you should look up to China...the Chinese is helping the African.

the us spends billions in aid to poor countries. most of the poor countries are ruled by corrupt groups that take the money, medicine, food, or whatever else others try to give to alleviate the suffering of those in need. so, what? you dont want us to take military action against such groups? just for you, we dont do things like that. we just keep giving and giving......that way the bad guys can sell it to buy more weapons or drugs, sex slaves or keep it all for themselves.
