...You get a gift that you find hideous??

I got this flower pot thing yesterday. It'd be pretty if it didn't have these radishes on it :| I can't figure out why my aunt thought I'd like it. lol

Trying to decide if I could regift it (to someone I don't care for!) or if I should keep it and only bring it out when my aunt comes around. lol

Yeah, we've had that happen too, and had to make case-by-case decisions. We've done both the things you're pondering.

Hiding it until the aunt comes over is probably the worst option - why didn't you ever plant anything in it, she'll wonder? And what if you can't find it?

I say plant a few radishes in it and put it discreetly outside.

The thing is: your aunt gave it to you because she thought you would like it (or it was soemthing she could afford). Thank her for the thoughtfulness, not for the coolness of the gift. Remember when you were 8 and your relative gave you a crocheted sweater vest for Christmas instead of something you could EVER think of using? Remember when you had to grit your teeth and smile and say "oh, how pretty, it must've taken a long time to make, I love it." and then you secretly put it in the bag with all the used wrapping paper so the trashman would take it from your sight and you'd never have to gaze upon it again? This is one of those times.

This same thing happens to me from my sister-in-law I think she buys us stuff at garage sales or something, she sends the worst tacky stuff , last year she kept sending lawn stuff like birds and lights and crap like that until we had to tell her to stop... the lawn can only have so much tacky stuff in it . The other stuff like t-shirts or stuffed animals.. we throw away. The lawn stuff ....some of it is there but the next garage sale it's going on the table. I say regift it or give it to goodwill.

Remember... your parents gave you stuff they didn't want, not because it was the best stuff they had. :)

while it would seem the polite thing to do to display it when she comes over, it might also give her the wrong idea that you actually like it, and you might get more of the same at a later date. my ex-mother-in-law did that to me - she saw something at my place that had mickey mouse on it (because someone who was at disney world got it for me) and next thing i know, everything she buys me has that dang mouse on it! i HATE disney stuff. now it was invader zim... i'd have been happy.

keep it and paint the pot a different color so you can use it and like it at the same time. if your aunt asks just tell her you painted it so it would match your house or something

Ahh come on now...sometimes you just have to be nice!! Just plant a nice Herb in there.. like basil, rosemary, something you use a lot and just keep it around so when she comes she will see it. I mean she will be happy and it can be useful to you.

Just hide it. That way, if she ever comes over, you have it to display so she wont get upset. I used to get crazy gifts from my grandma and had to do that. But it still makes you wonder what they were thinking when they bought it!!! :o)

Keep it in the attic and in 50 years recover it and sell it to some antiques show!
