I would definitely hand it in. Four years ago, I did pick up an unmarked envelope that contained eight £50 notes, this, at a time when I had very little money in my pocket. I handed it in to the Police Station, that was situated a few yards from where I had picked up the money and was given a receipt.

The money was claimed by an middle aged recently widowed woman. I received a wonderful thank you letter from her with an invitation to join her, in her modest home, for tea.

Whilst there, she explained that she had just drawn the money from the bank and had been on her way to collect a second-hand mobility scooter for her disabled granddaughter, when she had dropped the envelope.

On leaving, she gave me an envelope and told me it was a thank you card from her granddaughter. On the bus home, I opened the envelope and found not only the card but also a crisp £50.00 note.

Honestly does pay and the feeling you get from being honest, far outweighs the "rush" felt when pocketing someone elses money.

This did happen to me once. I found a roll of cash in the street, looked around to make sure the owner wasn't in sight, then to make sure I wasn't being filmed for one of those spoof programmes and then wondered what to do.

I handed it in to the police station which was actually only about 200 metres away. They looked at me in amazement but took the money and my details and told me that if no-one claimed it within a certain period of time (30 days I think it was) then I coudl keep it. I did that, non-one claimed it and after 30 days went to collect the money with a totally clear conscience.

If I had just pocketed it, then I would have felt guilty - what if it was an old person's pension or a poor single mother's entire benefit money for a week? As the person had every opportunity to claim it, having dropped it so close to the police station, I reckoned that it couldn't have been that much missed and therefore I could enjoy spending it.

Depends on where it is. If it's in a public location (the mall, the grocery store, etc.) I'll go inside and ask if someone has reported a large amount of cash missing. If not, I'll keep it!

I'd keep it, it's their fault they lose a whole wad of rolled up cash ! Besides, if there's no ID or anything, who knows who it's from ?

OK, if you knew who's it was return it immedietly.

If not, by handing it in, all you're doing is putting it in someone elses pocket. Trust me, I know a copper!!!!!

I'd probably feel so guilty I'd spend the money on family and friends though, doing nice things for them.

the totally broke part would make me want to spend it, but honesty would make me want to hand it in...the delima is that you have no idea who dropped the money, so i turned it in, there'd probably be some selfish guy to come around and claim the money as his, even if he dosnt need it.

i'd keep the money...if the person's rich enough to be carrying around wads of cash, they wont miss it too bad

If i find cash that clearly doesn't belong to anyone i will keep it, simple as that, if they lost a wad of cash, they obviously had a spare wad to lose. Share the wealth i say!

If your totally broke than yeh keep it, something for once is going your way ! But if you have cash than like an elderly widow could have lost it and she might die if she doesn't get the heat turned on ! or something !

no ID. I'd say I would take it but can't say for sure without actually being in that situation. If I kept it I would give certain amount to charity. And for the person that lost it, bad luck.
