After dismal performance of Indian Cricket Team in the West Indies Tour, Champions Trophy and South Africa Tour the media and Indian Public dumped Indian Team as non-performers. However the victories in the series against West Indies and Sri Lanka in India just prior to World Cup made the same media and public to praise the Indian Team lavishingly and expected them to win the world cup, whereas in reality Indian Team was not that strong enough to win the World Cup.
However, Indian Team were defenitely capable of reaching atleast upto semi final level. The loss against Bangladesh virtually sealed India's fate in the world cup and a situation had reached that they can qualify for Super 8 only if they win against Sri Lanka. The Indian players could not cope up with this pressure and lost the game against Sri Lanka and were knocket out of the world cup.
Having expected the team to win the world cup, the media and people could not digest the early exit of India from the World and the frustration of the people made them furious against the players, which unfortunately went beyond limits.

Nothing much to elobarate on. India got knocked out at the group stages losing to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Their solitary win came against Bermuda.
Well, the reaction back in India was very poor and pathetic. Almost everybody who had anything to do with the team got seriously trashed.
Think Pakistan came out better with the "home" reaction? Think so.
