How useful is Latin in the modern world?

Please answer from your own experience or observation and tell me if it is worth studying classics at university level. .

if you are a medical student, a linguist, a pharmacology student or planning to teach languages, it can be very useful

if you want to work as an IT specialist, i am not so sure :)

personally, I am a linguist and a literature student and my experience shows that Latin is useful for etymological studies and the like + it also helps you to write correctly in English but also in French, in Italian, etc.

it can also be helpful if you have aninterest in Roman philosophy or classical literature :) Then, you could read those in the original - it is always better to read something in the original :)

Dear, the thing is, for those who love reading originals...I mean, If you do not want to be spoiled by someone else´s interpretation of a classic text (usually latin or greek), you´d better learn some latin...Philosophy is mostly latin and several other disciplines happen to have it´s originals in latin as well, so, no doubt it IS useful for the wise or wise-to-be...

it is not, it is a waste of time, even in medicine...

study something which you will enjoy.... the only job you could do with Latin... is to teach Latin to other Latin teachers
