“Consequently, unless we receive payment in full by the end of the business day, August 30, 2007, we will have to take the unpleasant step of turning your account over to a professional collection agency. We would rather not be forced do this since it will result in damage to your personal credit rating.”

It is giving you a chance to pay the amount without demanding payment next week. I would call them an make payment arrangements. If you have a payment arrangement that extends past the 8-30 mark, they will not turn you over.

If you ignore them, they will turn you over (1st rule in collections, make no idle threats, follow through). Having a collection agency after you can be an ugly thing.

Better to make payment arrangements, even if it is just $50/mo. Something is better than nothing.

i stumble on this slightly a puzzle. The language is threatening and it incredibly is a different ultimatum so as that could desire to placed it later in a series of letters. yet, the time given for repayment is 3 months and that would not seem to extra healthful with the language. subsequently (coupled with the undeniable fact which you asked the question), i visit make an outrageous guess that this became into the 1st letter.

This is not the final letter.Call them now and set up payment options.
They just want their money. They don't want an account to go to collection, because they have to pay the agency to collect your debt.
Good luck.
(This is your last chance letter)

I would say it is next to last. The last would be "We have turned this account over to a collection agency. Please contact them for information on paying off this debt before you incur additional fees."

However they could always send a few variations of the letter you quoted, all making the same point.
