Another thing just occured to me while reading peoples responses and sorry if it offends anyone but the truth must be told!
Britain is a perceived legislative alliance made in the days of bitter wars between Scotland and England and by signing a treaty of common purpose it was hoped that all wars would be stopped. It was meant to protect peoples national identity whilst stopping the bloodshed.
That's the history lesson, now tell me why so many under educated buffoons refer to Britain as a country, its quite clearly never been so and if it wasn't for people wanting to stop the bloodshed of the time then Britain would not be a identity at all.
I believe that we should all be proud of our countries.. that is our own countries, there is no British nationality!

If it's to be a Britain Day, then it cannot be held on St. George's day which is England Day.
What exactly is being British anyway? I mean, it's not a country is it? Perhaps it's just an idea, a very silly idea which will not fool anyone.
Well, I'm off out in my Ford car with it's German engine to my local Curry House to eat Indian food.
Later this summer we have the biggest Hindu Fest outside of India, right here where I live. India, Jewel in the Crown etc.
No - oppose! Bad idea.

Perhaps we could have it on our birthdays. Then we can celebrate how we like with friends and wont hold up the hole country. I know the UK wont be totally united, but we would all get a day off eventually.
Although St Georges day works for me.

I'm not sure we need a new national day. Every day is national poverty awareness, or breast cancer, or postnatal depression day, as I just learned!
We have enough "days". We should beef up VE Day. Britain, in the first half of the twentieth century, gave up the world's most impressive, largely benevolent, and certainly productive, empire to destroy far more destructive empires (Austro-Hungarian, Ottoman, Japanese and German). British values of fair play, free trade, rule of law, capitalism (have you tried serfdom recently?) have improved the world immeasurably.

As Scottish and welsh and Irish ministers sit in their own parliaments, and the Scottish SNP don't want to be part of Britain I think we could just stick to a GREAT ENGLAND DAY, many may disagree but we can still demonstrate what it is to be multi-cultural and show that no matter who you are or where you come from you all deserve the same rights, we need to be leading the way forward in integrating people into our society and along the way we could evan learn a thing or two from other cultures that exist in this GREAT country.
I am not anti- Welsh Irish or Anti Scottish they have their own views as to the direction of their countries and that has to be respected...,,,

There`s a big gap between August Bank Holiday and Christmas. I think we should have a Bank Holiday on the lst Monday after Rememberance Sunday in November, to mark respect for all those who have lost their lives to keep this a free country.

2nd September - anniversary of the Battle of Omdurman. This was probably the last great battle fought by the British Empire against a native army.

Yes - it should be 28th November - the anniversary of the day the self-pitying Thatcher left Downing Street.
