First check whether you live in a 'hot spot' or not. 'Hot spot' is a region covered by an 'Access Point' which is like a mobile phone tower. Access points are installed by the wireless internet service providers. If you have hot spot in your region then subscribe your connection to network operator. Then attach wireless adapter to your laptop and configure it accordingly.
In case you don't have a hot spot , you can access internet wirelessly through mobile phone of GPRS capability.

Assuming that you already have the wireless router configured to be broadcasting a signal....

Assuming that she has a wireless card already in her laptop, you go into the Control Panel and run the Wireless Network Wizard. It should find your wireless router and offer to attach you to it. You will need to know that the password (WEP/WPA key) is for your network if you set one up. You will have to enter that the first time you connect. After that, it should be automatic.

you have to have a wireless router connected to the original internet modem, then enable the wireless in the router, usually you can get into the router by using the web browser and putting in 192.168.0.1 (for Dlink) or 192.168.1.1(for linksys), make sure you are plugged with ethernet to make this connection then after that you can unpluge from the router and try the wireless
