My daughter never put anything in her mouth my son on the other hand is 2 1/2 and puts everything in his mouth. Even soil from the garden. It is one way for him to explore. Touch, feel, hear and taste. For him taste is most interesting. He recently tasted the dogs nose, gross but normal. The challenge is keeping my home so clean that he can actually eat off the floor and when we aren't in the house or home watching him like a hawk.

Good luck!

It's because when babies are babies they have better senses in their mouths/tongues than in their hands so it's their way of finding out how things feel as well as taste.

Strange but true.
