Try Lord Howe - if flying with friend...... if taking a friend of two weeks to visit relatives, ring ya brother and forewarn . Drive the Great ocean road, go north to the last of the heat, Byron, Coffs, before you plan anything....check the weather forecast, I know it's meaningless if you're booking a flight - saves a lotta grief if you intend driving somewhere scenic!
Whatever you decide.... enjoy, it's the last long until christmas!

I can heartily recommend the Lyrebird Hill Winery and Guest House in rural South Gippsland, about two hours out of Melbourne. Great accomadations, great food, and great wines. The hosts are very special people, and will make the visit memorable.
As to your guest, that has to be your decision.
Enjoy!

The Central Coast (Gosford / The Entrance)
Port Stephens and beaches
The Hunter Valley and vineyards

If I were you, visit your brother alone.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
