Examples of such American bands would be The Strokes, The Killers and Kings of Leon.

Krayden has it right the UK is more open to a wider varitey of musical styles so if something is alittle unique, different or otherwise different than the normal mass appeal stuff the US is addicted to ,they embrace it rather than reject it ,so it is somewhat easier for bands to begin to make a name for themselves in the UK and in Europe as a whole for that matter. Many of the bands America has rejected are huge in the UK and euope. the closest thing in america to the UK style of musical diversity is college radio.

well, it has been proven that the American market is so hard to break into. Usually, we are the last to 'disocover' great talent, even from American bands. Maybe it has to do with that we are a larger more diverse culture with many geographical 'scenes.' How big were grunge bands like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains in Seattle before they broke to the mainstream? The same goes for Irish Street Punk in Boston (i.e. The Dropkick Murphys) and Third Wave Ska in California (Sublime, Reel Big Fish, No Doubt.....when they were still ska).

It may just be that the timing is a lot better for them to be released in the UK. All of those guys made it big when the Uk was having a major influence of Guitar Bands, Razorlight, Kaiser Chiefs.

They also have the bonus of being "from America", sounds a lot better than "This is The Blue **** Balls Group, they're from Staines"

The American music scene is so closed minded...the only thing we're exposed to is all this crappy mainstream stuff that they call "music". It's coruption at it's very core!

We need to open our minds and our ears to other possibilities and turn off our mainstream radios...

Because UK is relatively small and it's easy to appear huge.

It's a matter of taste.
