3x / 2 + 2 = 8

2(3x/2) + 2(2) = 2(8)

3x + 4 = 16

3x + 4 - 4 = 16 - 4

3x = 12

3x/3 = 12/3

x = 12/3

Multiply through the whole equation by 2:

3x + 4 = 16

Add -4 to both sides of the eq.

3x = 16 - 4 = 12 ==> 3x = 12

Now divide by three both sides:

x = 4

[3x/2] + 2 = 8

subtract 2 from both sides
[3x/2] + 2 - 2 = 8 - 2
which gives you

[3x/2] = 6

multiply both sides by 2
[3x/2] X 2 = 6 X 2
which gives you

3x = 12

divide both sides by 3
3x/3 = 12/3
which gives you

x=4

hope it helps good luck with linear equations mate.
you can do it the way the previous 2 people answered also

I hope you mean this :
3x/2 + 2=8

3x/2=8-2 [ Transposition method signs change]

3x/2=6

3x=12 [ we cross multiply]

x=12/3

x=4

U'll get,

3x+4=16

-4 on both sides, u'll get,

3x=16-4
3x=12

simplify the whole thing and....

x=4!
