They're small files that web sites use to track where you go on the internet. They're generally harmless, but you should probably get rid of them if you're concerned about privacy issues.

To delete them, go to Tools, Internet Options, delete cookies.

Cookies are just small .txt (text) files that by themselves cannot hurt your computer. Cookies are "set" by almost every web-site that you visit, on every visit. You can delete all your cookies today and by tomorrow you will have dozens again just be visiting web-sites.

Cookies do not slow down a computer, at least the first million or so that you might have on your computer!

They are not a virus or spyware, BUT some people consider "tracking" cookies to be an invasion of privacy.

Tracking cookies are mostly "3rd party cookies" from advertising servers. They can track your movements around the web in order to deliver to you customized, targeted advertising.

It all depends on ones level of paranoia.

If you are using Internet Explorer for a browser, you can permanently block all 3rd party cookies. Go to tools > internet options > privacy > advanced > check-mark "override automatic cookie handling" > third party cookies > tick "block" > ok > ok.

These are small files that web sites use to track where you go on the Internet.

Tracking Cookies dont all work in one way. Their aim is manipulate the use of a cookie by allowing more than one domain to view it. This is achieved by finding a suitable weakness in the implementation of the cookie protocol in the client browser.

They're generally harmless, but you should still probably rid yourself of them regularly if you're concerned about the privacy issue.

These are files that track your activities like ur browsing habits (websites visited). These results will be sent to some third-party mainly advertising companies. Based on your activities, ads will be delivered to you. For example, if you visited some gaming sites and if this has been tracked, you will get ads related to games.
So for privacy issues, it is better to delete these tracking cookies using any anti-spyware tools like Ad-aware...
