In this matter, I blame Unions for causing things to go so wacky. Sure, we should respect American Jobs. Up to a point. But Unions have put themselves, so far out of touch? I don't feel THEY have what's right for America. If more competition can bring `em to their senses? So be it! Good question.

Most of the so-called Japanese cars are now made in North America, which makes me wonder if the quality is still there. Although all the Honda, Nissan, Toyota, and Subaru plant workers in North America. would argue that they make them just as good as the Japanese workers.
the images you speak of have always been played with by advertising agencies. Why else do they have good looking women always hanging over the cars. As far as hippies and mini-vans, what was the Volkswagen bus? It is called the free market. The government is already way too involved in out lives. The advertisers are not using out images against us.

Almost all of the Honda cars sold in the US are now built in the US. The same goes for Toyota and Nissan. These 'foreign' car companies are creating jobs for US car makers that our own car companies have failed to do, hence the huge layoffs by Ford, GM. Look at the ratings for best made, most reliable cars in the world - Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and even Hyundai have US cars beat.
