One thing to add to the other answers, take lots of money. Things cost a lot. Shows can easily be $80 to $ 100 a seat.

Depending on how long you are going to be there and your likes and dislikes. If you like 50'-60's music, try the Sahara for their show with the Platters, Coaster, and Drifters. Also the Orleans as they usually have a good show there too. The Gold Coast has a dinner show that is is reasonable and features good entertainment.
If you want to take in the "name" shows go to the 1/2 price ticket office and see what is available as the cost of those tickets usually are in the $100+ area for full price.
If you are into Art, go the The Artisian Hotel on Sahara and I-15 or the Wynn.
Another place to visit is the "Ethel M's Gardens" in Henderson. You also get to sample their wonderful chocolate if you take the free tour thru the plant.
If you want a nice romantic place to go, go to Pahrump to the Pahurmp Winery. This is about an hour away but well worth it.
check the magazine "What's On" for shows as well. This is just a few things to do in the Vegas area.
Just 2 1/2 hours away is Death Valley. Although it is quite warm this time of year there are some beautiful places to visit by car or stop at the Furnace Creek Ranch and visit the Borax Museum. This valley has a lot of history as well.
Enjoy you visit. There are lots to do besides gamble but if gambling is your choice there are lots of places for that.

The World Series of Poker is going on right now. Head over to the Rio and check out the scene. I believe there are a lot of companies with booths set up giving things away for advertisement.
Rent a car and head over to Hoover Dam. Take the tour, it is worth it.

I love the comedy shows!! They always have great headliners. If your wife likes Celine Dion, she plays Fri, sat. and sunday at Cesars Palace. There are comedy shows at the Tropicana, Riverea, and the Improv is in Harrahs. Circus Circus has a nightly free show that is geared more towards families, but I even enjoyed it.

Go to the "Rio" casino, also the Bellagio and venitian. There are places to rent and fire automatic weapons, rent hookers and whatever else an adult would rather do in disney world. There will be people everywhere trying to hand you porn, just keep walking. The hooker yellow pages outnumber the regular buisness section of the phone book.
