if you know ms excel please answer this?

what is the formula i can use to add up the instances of the same word in a selection of cells?

for example, I want to count all the occurances of the name "Pluto" in a selection of cells and have it produce a numeric answer, such as "3"

Column D = selection of cells, also known as the range
