I have a Doberman Pinscher that's almost 6 months old (will be 6 months on the 20th of June) and I can currently feeding him about 1 cups 3 times a day on Iams for large breed puppies, but he is never satisfied. Numerous times he has knocked the lid off the container I have his food in and gorges until he can barely walk. Then he just passes out for a few hours.
He will probably mature to 90 pounds or so, but he is currently 35. He was malnurished when I first got him. He only weighed 27 pounds and was infested with fleas and tape worms. He was also the runt of the litter, so I'm assume he had to fight for his food which would explain why he is frantic when eating.
So, in closing, should I increase his food intake (if so to how much?) or keep it the same?

I forgot to add that his previous owners were feeding him only one cup of adult food a day, so there's another reason for his franticness, but it's been almost two months of normal feeding and he is no different than when I first got him.

I believe the bag said to feed 3-4 cups a day, so yes, I am feeding him the correct amount.

He is in much better condition now that he's been with me for almost 2 months. You could clearly see his ribs and even hip bones when I first got him, but he is getting much more healthy.

When I first got my Dobe, there was litterally NO muscle in his arms and legs, but he is building muscle now. I also have a Boxer puppy (she came from a better breeder, so she never had these problems) and they play all the time.

Generally I feed what it says on the bag..to keep from over feeding. Are you sure that's what the bag says for his age on the bag? A dog will always be hungry...unless they are sick...especially larger breeds. You should be able to tell by his physique if he is fine. You should be able to feel the ribs, but not physically see the ribs. He should have a defined waist. There should be no excess fat around the tail area. You should be able to clearly define his chest, body cavity, waist. He should have visible muscle definition. If your still unsure call your vet. He could just be a growing boy or he could just be a porky boy.

Better talk to the vet. The dog for sure had some abandonment issures. With any other dog, I'd say put down the food, and take away what he doesn't eat right away. But it seems like he's just likely to eat himself sick. This is abnormal behavior due to his hard puppyhood. The vet will know best.

I would suggest you talk to the vet. They would know whwat is best. Sometimes due to the problems they may suggest you feed more, tehy may want to do another stool sample to see if you did get all teh worms.
Some dogs with this problem never feel fool or they are afraid tehy may not get fed again.
It's really to hard to answer this question I'm sure your vet knows teh dog and knows what is best for her.
Good Luck

Like a cup or two 3times A day keep him on a schedule so he doesn't pee or poo in the house. When he is 2yo give him food 2x a day.
