If you "play" with the PC, then Vista is ok (nothing serious).
If you do some serious/professional work, use a proven system (XP with SP2 is pretty stable).
Do not forget: MS makes PCs for games and players: this is where the market is. Engineers are a very small part of their market.
So, MS develops FUN and forget those who WORK.
As usual, wait for Vista SP2 before going for it. Let the game-players debug the stuff...

I have been dealing with Vista since March...and I don't think that I like it very much. #1 --It seems to take me longer to do the things that I was used to accessing quickly and with ease. #2 --Vista was pre-installed on a laptop that I purchased in March and I have yet to see what all of the big "improvements". #3 --In April, I received a Vista software upgrade for a laptop that I purchased last November ( it was part of a special in-store rebate that promised customers a free Windows Vista upgrade, when it became available.)
#4 --Since installing the Vista upgrade I have ran into several glitches or time-consuming situations.
To sum it all up, I think that I would have rather stayed w/ XP.

i am a home user and recently purchased a new Vista PC but although things loaded up mega fast it is a job to find your way about and some things you are used to don't work as yet so i loaded up my old PC again and with all the problems on there i went back to vista yesterday and it was a breath of fresh air so i for one will just sit it out until they get it sorted.....i heard a lot of companies are going back to XP at this time

Sometimes yes. But I paid for them (at work I still have XP) and there are times that I wish I had Vista at work. Very good searching to the start menu, very good new windows explorer and if you put also Office 2007 to the picture it is just getting better...

I paid for my legal version of Visa business and it is by far the best operating system I have used. Mind you have I have another machine with both Suse Linux and XP installed.
Of course, Vista has its flaws and I even had 2 bluescreen events, but they don't bother me at all because I used it primarily as an entertainment platform.

No, vista is immense - it is the best thing I have bought in ages - I don't see why everyone has a problem with it!!! I'm very happy! :D
