The best way (and healthy) is a combination of cardio exercises and a good diet.

You should do some running (or a treadmill) at least 30 minutes a day.
Of course, if you are sedentary, you should go slow to not injure your body.
A good time would be 1h /day. At least until youreach your goals.
It would be good if you would do some weight lifting, but with moderation.
More muscles, more calories burned in the resting time.

The diet is very simple.
Avoid sugar, junk food and this kind of stuff.

You should eat lean food. Fish and chicken. Whole grain carbohidrate and a lot of fruits.
Those simple tips can help you a lot.
There is a list of good foods. (in the link below)

A good tip is: make 5 meals a day. This will make your metabolic rate burn more fat.
Always carry a peice of fruit or some whole grain cereal to avoid long time with no food.
Drink a lot of water. At least a gallon/day.

Please, avoid those miracles diets and exercises. They will only fool your body for a small time. Your body will adapt and your life quality is going to decrease a lot.

A good shape is the result of a good lifestyle. You will like your new life.
Good luck
Cheers!

The best advice I could give anyone is: make smart choices. Put down the second cookie, take the stairs, get enough sleep, don't get lazy, don't stuff yourself, etc... it ALL adds up!

-eat your vegetables!
-watch your fat, carb and sugar intake
-snack on fruits when you are hungry (you won't pay for it later, and fruits like watermelon and grapes are mostly water!)
-stick to whole wheat. white bread is the number one cause of belly fat. (pizza, sandwiches, hamburger buns, pasta... it adds up)

-exercise! don't eat more calories than you can burn. (google " burn calories " for lots of info!)
-running/walking is the best exercise for you!
-crunches and push ups are great as well. You don't need crazy machines or new exercises to exercise right.
-try new things!
-also, muscle burns more than fat does, so don't be afraid of strength training.

in my experience, 90% of losing weight is mental. you HAVE to stay focused, so keep things around you to help you. (pictures of jessica alba, that bikini you want to fit into.. etc) use the buddy system, keep a diary of everything you eat, and reward yourself when you make good decisions!

And don't be afraid to take a day off... everyone needs to take a breather!

Eat every 3-4 hours to keep that metabolism going! Just don't overeat or it will never work!

find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

The best way is to get into some program.

They can give you moral support when you need it and trust me you will need it.

It is really tough trying to make it on your own. Try and look at your local health club for programs that might suit your needs.
