The statement that man was made in god's image refers to our consciousness, intelligence, and spirituality. In particular, we are created in god's image because we have been given the ability to *create*.

If you check the book of Genesis, you will find 2 very clear examples of god (actually, the Elohim, which most people are clueless about) bemoaning the fact that humans had become like gods, and therefore needed to be thwarted.

This happened immediately after Eve "ate of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil". The Elohim saw and said to *themselves*, "Look, man did this and has *become like us*. If they also eat of the Tree of Life, they will live forever." That is why Adam & Eve were kicked out of the garden of Eden.

Many generations later, in Babel, humankind was very advanced, and they were building a "tower to the heavens". The Elohim showed up and said to themselves, "Look what man is capable of when the put their heads together. They can accomplish anything!" And the Elohim didn't like that very much, so they "scattered the people and confused their language".

Look it up, that's EXACTLY what it says.

Christians have their heads up their *** because they spend more time thinking they know what the bible says than actually reading it. Elohim is a Hebrew word that essentially translates to "male and female gods". The fact is, we were created by another form of life, and that other form of life used something from themselves and gave it to us. They created us. Just like humans have the ability to create, only we do not yet have all the information that our creators used when they created us. Our creators used science - biological material and DNA. Nowadays we are using some of the same technology with cloning. And we will continue to learn more as time goes on.

All flesh is built from the same "building blocks" as you mentioned, but remember, only Man was literally hand-made by God. All of the animals were spoken into existence

As far as being made in God's image, Man has the wisdom and capability of understanding about God, Man can think and reason, something animals cannot do.

And only Man has an eternal spirit, which separates him from the animal kingdom.

Animals have souls which give them their personalities, but when their bodies die, the soul dies with them. With Man, the soul unites with the spirit so that Man lives on after death, becoming a living spirit, just as God is a living Spirit.

Solomon said in the Biblical book of Ecclesiastes that the soul of an animal goes back to the ground when it dies, but the spirit of Man goes to God who created him.

Man is an eternal creature, and in that we are created in God's image. And where we spend eternity after death depends on our relationship with Him.

If man is made in gods image why is he made of the same thing as a comet, Hydrogen, carbon, oxegen, nitrogen, etc. I'm as big an atheist as the next guy, but surely you can come up with a better example of the problems with religion.

To really simplify it for you ; you answered your own question by saying "same stuff , different shapes" ? God`s image is unique in the fact that man is the only life form he created to look as Him in His Image .

Does God have blood, brains, guts, bone, teeh .. same stuff different shapes? No. God is spirit.

Man is body, soul, and spirit. We worship God in spirit and in truth. So man's body and soul has nothing to do with God's image.

Answer: Focus on spirit in man and God.

All creations are a reflection of their creator. This does not just include us little humans.

In our universe there is vast complexity, beauty and order. There is also the potenital for change. Life is not static. These must be part of the nature of the creator.

Revelation 1

12I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands,
...... 13and among the lampstands was someone..... "like a son of man," dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest.

............... 14His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire.

..............15His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.

17When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

Are not all things made from the earth?

But, not all things follow the same pattern. If it were so, then pork would taste like chicken. and shrimp would taste like veal. there would be no distinction in understanding adn we would be able to speak the same languages as cows, dogs, and sea creatures.....

Your logic is flawed..... But, would have made a great concept!
