I have a red/fuschia colored sofa, with navy blue and chocolate brown accent pillows. My boyfriend wants to paint the walls a blue color. It's a fairly large room, with a good amount of sunlight, but a dark color would really close in the area.... I would like to stick with blue as well, but I have no idea of the shade. Help?

If the room is large, pick the wall that the sofa will go and paint it either the navy blue or chocolate brown. This is going to be the focal wall. This wouldnt darken the room, but it would warm it up more. Pair either of those colors with Benjamin Moore's Waterbury Cream (HC-31) and it would create a great room.

Email me if you have questions!

EDIT: The people who answered after me have no idea of how to use color. Pretty much everything they said would clash.

I would go with one navy blue wall and see how it looks. Painting only one wall is totally acceptable. If it looks really good, but appears too dark to do the whole room. Then finish up with a cream or light shade that compliments the chocolate.
My daughter has one deep purple wall and the rest are cream colored and it looks great

I think you have to choose a medium blue, but defiantly without much intensity or brightness... include more of the same color in the accessories to set some rhythm...

you can also use the blue in one or 2 walls only (not the one behind the fuchsia sofa), while you can use different colors from the room for the rest of the walls... Good luck!

I would probably only paint the opposing walls a few shads lighter blue than the navy and the other walls baby blue. this makes the room look longer or wider and your boyfriend can have his color too.Or beige, go to a local paint store and look at your options of paint and comp air with each other on what you guys think looks good, but I would use more than one color if you want to stick with the blue.

Pick a light neutral, such as white or ivory.
Paint all the walls ivory.
Then add navy [ skinny ] stripes alternating with fat ivory
stripes, on the wall behind the sofa.
Add navy blue drapes, and a navy rug with fuschia and a little ivory. TA-DAA!

I have pretty conservative tastes and even so i like a bright room who wants a dark drab colored room.
Home depot and all the paint stores will give you ample chips then when you think you found the one you like ask for a sample jar approx 3.00 dollars and try it out before you waste 25.00 on a gallon of paint.

I would go with a just barely there yellow. It gives a roon a warm clean fresh feel. Blue is a cold color. Even in a light shade it can feel cold. ( Like ice) the light yellow will go with anything.

This has to be chosen according to ones own likes! Asking others will only confuse you!
