Dog's and people have different skin, different oils, and therefore they need different products to treat them.
You're probably right about the pointlessness of testing human products on animals, but the fact is they're not allowed to put products on the market without some kind of testing, so that's why they do it.

The PH of a dogs shampoo is designed specially for dogs skin. Same with a human shampoo, it is designed for human skin. If you continually use a human shampoo on a dog, it will strip the natural oils from the dogs skin & fur coat, leaving both the skin and coat very dry. This can result in dry itchy skin, flaking, lose of fur, dull dried out coat. It is not worth using a human shampoo on a dog at all... It may seem harmless but it isnt any good for them at all. For you to wash your dog with human shampoo would be the same as you washing your own hair with dishwashing liquid. Get a nice gentle oatmeal type shampoo and conditioner that are specialy designed for dogs. Their fur will look beautiful & they will not develop skin conditions. Dont wash your dog often... only bath it roughly every 3 weeks (no matter what the bottle says) Because dogs skin just cant handle the overload of chemicals. If you choose to use human shampoo on your dog then you are making a big mistake.

It's all a big marketing hype. As long as you use a "human" shampoo that isn't made for treated hair. I have friends that rather use pet shampoo on their own hair. It's all up to you. Some people even use dish soap on their dogs. It all works as long as you rinse it out well, no matter what you use. That's what can cause problems, so rinse well. Some dogs do have sensitive skin so you have to watch out for that, but then so do we. All the best. Suds away;^)

There is a difference. Dogs have a different PH balance. Humans have one follical where most dogs, excluding yorkies, have four. Would you use an adult shampoo on your baby! One bottle of dog shampoo is not that expensive and goes a long way.

I have purchased shampoo for my dogs several times over
the years and the only difference to me is the price. I use
the same shampoo and creame rince on my dogs now that
I use. Their hair is beautiful. Some pet products really are
not necessary.

I have used human shampoo on several of my dogs...and not once has it irritated their skin, and yes their hair was also beautiful and not to mention very soft. I have also used baby shampoo for their head because it is tear-free. My dogs have always smelled so nice too, mmmm-mmm panteen pro-v, herbal essence, garnier fructis.....unlike some of the nasty smelling dog shampoo they have out.

People shampoo has a lot of chemicals in it that can irritate a dog's skin. It is rather unhealthy for them. Also, dog shampoos tend to be more of the tear-free variety so that it doesn't hurt when it gets into their eyes.
