So I find the girl thats sitting next to me in class to be really cute, and since I'm a shy/nervous guy (plus I don't want to say something stupid to embarass myself or make me look like an idiot) , I haven't talked to her yet....what's a good icebreaker to start the conversation/possible friendship?

Good advices so far :)
A little detail...i'm pretty short for a guy and she's kinda tall...I've always thought that girls don't go for guys who are shorter than them which is why I'm so hesitant about it

After class, make eye contact with her and offer her a stick of gum. Then make small talk.......

Okay, she's cute... if she's worth it then you definately need to do something.
Have you tried saying a simple "hi" or "hello" maybe even a simlple "how is your day going?"
Yeah, if you're shy it seems a little harder than just saying it, but if you're really interested in this girl my advice is to start talking to her.
Hey, and if you say something stupid or you studder, guess what, she'll probably realize that you like her. Could it be that bad? Maybe laugh about it together in the future?
Yeah, just break the ice with a simple hi, hello, hey kind of thing. Worried about saying something simple? I once, in an attempt to say hi or hello, said helli. Yeah i felt soo stupid. I figured he thought i swore at him. Guess what, he never even noticed that i messed up the word. So relax. Don't worry so much. Just take the chance.
Good luck ^__^

if the teacher has something quirky about them, and if you can do it without getting in too much trouble, talk to her about that during class. If it gets slow you can always petend to be paying attention or trying not to be noticed. Plus, if you get in trouble for talking to her she'll probably come up and say "sorry". If this happens laugh it off, and say "no problem". If, by then, you feel like you can't talk to her that much you probably don't want to be taking her on a date or even be good friends, because it'll just be awkward.

make gun of the teacher, anything....just be spontaneous. ask her about the assignment ur doing. tell her u dont get what the teacher is saying because_______ < make a stupid excuse...say he has a funny accent, his talking makes u go to sleep, or that he's so ugly u cant pay attention cuz you're laughin so much inside lol then...she'll probably say something like: yea, he's an idiot. then u could start making fun of ppl....just dont take it too far, and make her think u're an *** that just makes fun of ppl.

Just ask her out. Being shy isnt going to get you anywhere. Find something to pick on her about and tease her. Just be fun man. Worst case is she makes upa really nice excuse to not go out with you and no harm done.

Say to her, "excuse me, do you know how much polar bears weigh?"
"I don't know"
"Enough to break the ice. Hi, my name is Mormantie."

"Hi, I'm ________."
or, if she knows your name,
"Hi, _______, what's up?"
Here's a hint: stop worrying about looking like an idiot. It'd be even stupider not to say anything.
