Engagement announcement? My parents want to put one in the local paper, but I do not. I just don't like it. It tells everyone where you live and what you do for a living. I don't like people knowing a lot about my personal life. That leaves oppurtunities for accqutainces to pry about my personal life. I don't like people I hardly know asking me about work, my home, etc. I'll volunteer the info when I'm good and ready.

What do you think?

I personally think you should be able to plan your wedding anyway you want to, it's your day, your life, so tell the parents how you feel just like you did here! Congrat's to you!! I've been married 20 years!!!

An engagement announcement in the paper is not necessary. However, you can choose what to put in the paper and do not have to include too much personal information; just put what you are comfortable with. Another option is to send out announcements to family and close friends; they already know the personal information.

It's nice for people who have known you in the past. Some may be interested. As another person said, you only put what information in there you want to. Come on, your parents raised you and have made a lot of sacrifices. Would it kill you to humor them by running an announcement?

You might consider a compromise with your parents, I have seen newspaper announcements that do not have personal info in them, or very little.
Put in the parents name, what town they live in the prospective groom's name, his parents names, and what town they live in, and what month the wedding is being planned for, and a line about the town in which you will reside. . Ask the groom what info he wants put in. You do not have to put in anything about yourself if you don't want, or just put in what school you graduated from[if you did]. Leave out where you work, where you live.

Agreed. I've seen those announcements and find them rather odd.

You could send some little cards announcing the engagement to yours and your parents family if you were inclined.

hello pink! its your engagement and things should go as you want... i just think your folks are so happy for you, and proud, that they want to let the world to know that their daughter has become engaged. understand, it's a "parent thing". to appease your parents, you may consider doing something like this: Mr & Mrs pink's parents are delighted to announce the engagement of their daughter, miss pink to mr pink. wedding is set for fall of 2008...use a season. not a month or date. simple as that, no more personal info given.
good luck in your decision and congratulations on your engagement!! i hope this helped! :)
