Do you beleive as a Christian to go where you are celebrated not where you are tolerated?
Do you feel in life that sometimes you have to take a stand by NOT doing something?
This year is my 20th high school reunion and it is 2500 miles away from where I live now.
When I went to this school there were people that we really mean and negative and oppressive.
When I was on the website I was sharply critized because I have testimony how God was working in my life this person posted comments that were hurtful and mean for ALL of the class to see.
Why would I want to spend 5 hours with this person who does not give a rats tail about me and why would I want to spend lots of money to socialize with people that were either mean and nasty or casual aquiatnaces?
I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders. Have you ever had this happen to you? Did you feel empowered by the descion not to go to your reunion?

Sorry I listed a lot of things my point and question was did you ever feel empowered or good about not going to your high school renuion and also do you feel as a Christian you should go where you are celebrated not where you are tolerated. The class also has a reunion web site and I was badmouthed by a person on the site for all the class to see.

I have chosen not to go to any of my class reunions to this point, next summer we will have our 25th. I drank a lot, did a lot of drugs, and was a very mean person when I was in school. Since I quit drinking and drugging shortly after school I have tried to avoid a lot of the old familiars and all the reunions to this point have been in bars. I am going to the 25th regardless of where it is and I will hold my head up high when they introduce me as Pastor Bill Sommerfelt.
I do know what you are talking about with the feeling of empowerment and the weight being lifted off your shoulders. You need not feel obligated to put yourself out there for ridicule just to please a few people. I suggest you take the time and grow more in the Lord, there will come a day when you will hold your head up high, walk with a kick in your step, and not care what other people say about you because you know who you are in Jesus. For now just lay back and relax in your loving Saviors arms and let Him take all your cares away.

Well, I copped heaps of abuse during high school, some of us do, but when I attended my 10yr reunion I was pleasantly surprised by how many of the idiots I went to school with had really grown up and become decent people.
I hadn't wanted to go because I figured they'd all be the same, and I would have missed a good night if I hadn't opened my mind to the possibility I was wrong on that count.

Well I will agree with you if only one other person was in your class. But I have a feeling many others were in the class and if you went and made friends with with the people who were your friends before and maybe a few others you would most likely find they think that person made an *** of himself. But judge not for every Christian gets persecuted. And forgiveness is the most important trait we as humans can have to be more like Christ.

When you are firmly established in your faith you can withstand anything God puts in front of you. You should not let these few bad (here's my cliche') "apples" ruin an experience for you. You are just as much entitled to your class reunion as anyone else.
I am sure that others in your class were just as hesitative, but you never know where great experiences will happen.
Have a great one!

Simple....Your living testimony to the power of a child born in a dirty manger, then nailed to an evil cross, and an empty tomb!!!!!
Your only concern should be how darn good you will radiate when you show that you are stilllllllll that "Christian freak"
Amen!

I did feel like the weight of the world was lifted from my shoulders! It happened the day I said, "I'm an atheist and there is no god." outloud for the first time. Peace washed over me and I've never looked back.
