I want to attempt research on a home we just purchased - the original part of the house is over 140 years and looks to have a lot of the original flooring. Any way to find out if this specific house has any history of sightings or anything?

Ask neighbors of the history of the house. Go to the local library and research the history of your house. Just because a house is old doesn't mean its haunted.

Also there is a disclosure law that the owners have to tell you if there has been a death of any kind in or on the property. Ask the neighbors, library or do a search of the property at the court house to see who owned it and maybe get some history about it.

The others have given you good tips on research. I would add what are your experiences? Have you had things moved from one room or floor to another. Sounds you can't identify, or any other unusual things happening? Such as feeling like someone was in the room with you when you are alone. If so you could have company.

Only if you call experts, or you can just wait to see if strange things happens, you can go to your local library and look at the newspapers to see if anything creepy happened in your house.

think you can go to the library and get information as well as the city hall? where you pay your taxes at, mine is in the 18 hundreds and even if I am a christian I think it has someone else here besides us...good luck

Don't need to search for it, if it is, it will manifest itself, don't worry about it.
