so why did moses' people start worshiping a golden calf? i mean they had just seen plague after plague, the first born slain, and a sea parted just so they could escape and then they turn around and start into golden calf worship? seems a little suspicious to me.

It was proof after their enslavement in Egypt, that they weren't worthy of finding "The Holy Land"... They lived in the desert and died there for their lack of faith..

They were hungry for something other than manna after 40 years and thought the Golden Calf was a restuarant with a never-ending salad bar.

yup even though they had seen plague after plague they still took to worshipping a calf .. according to me it was probably because the signs of God did'nt really sink into them so deeply.. they gave in to their old practices too easily..

. it definitely requires a pure heart in order to want to follow the right path...

but the truth is God knows best...

They got bored with Moses not coming off the Mount
They wanted an Idol God that they could see
They rose up to eat and play
I think it was an orgy
anyway they got killed for it

The jews worshipped many different gods at the time. It was only later that Moses got them to concentrate on his sky god.
