Room temp or 58 deg which comes from the temp of cellars. Which the wine is kept in. Also any red wine should be opened and poured into a jug then poured back into the bottle or decanter, this is called decanting which adds air to the wine and makes it taste so much better. Try it you will see.

I am drinking it right now... and what I do is put it in the Freezer for about a half hour. Its not super cold that way and its still tasty. If its too cold it seems to freeze the tounge and you cant really taste the distinct flavor that each wine has. (especially cabernet Soveg naw ) lol. try it.
Usually it just depends on your preference. In restaurants however it is usually served warm, unlike white wine that is served chilled, but not frosty.

Normally red wine would be served at room temp. However, Bourgueile, also a red wine is served cold.

The rule about room temperature came about when room temperature was more like about 50- 55 deg F. I like mine about that temp. It is cool but not cold. That is also how I like many good beers.

If it's really good wine, I like it room temperature. But, since I usually only drink so-so to sort of good wine, I put ice in it. Still tastes good to me.
