Lao Pu & Justanother_supermom have given excellent answers. In addition to their comments I will just add two political quotes.

Martin Luther, the Christian reformer from the 1500s once said, "I would rather be ruled by a competent Turk than an incompetent Christian."

Gene Callahan, author of Economics for Real People stated, "I am relatively uninterested in who holds the reins of power. My interest is in making those reins a lot less powerful, so that I won't care so much who is holding them."

An atheist rocket scientist. But I'd marry the village idiot.

I am not Christian, but if I observe that the idiot has an implicit wisdom about the relations between people, as opposed to the rocket scientist, who is interested mostly in things (he hermits himself away, rather than living in the village), then I would be inclined to elect the idiot over the scientist. Intelligence is not the mark of being a good leader, or at having the best interests of your fellow man at heart. Neither is one's religion, or lack there of. To sum up, the pertinent data to make this decision has not been provided.

I would trust the Christian with matters that required wisdom and in America we have many ways to elect an idiot. You confuse IQ with wisdom, a mistake very common to idiots. A high school graduate with an understanding of government and a measure of wisdom and common sense would probably beat a rocket scientist, who would best serve our country working on rockets.

I'd go for the atheist rocket scientist over the village idiot, regardless of his religion. I do believe a Christian, though, will ruin this country faster than an atheist. (Or should I say "already has ruined it"?)

I thought the Christian village idiot was already president.

Atheist rocket scientist, of course. Religion has nothing to do with who I would elect, I want someone who's actually competent leading this country.

The atheist rocket scientist of course.

Of the two - I would have to go with the rocket scientist because she/he can read/write and meet other qualification a president needs.
Religion in politics worries me, a little. We don't need another Hitler, (in any country). I wish people would remember history - so we don't repeat it.
