Mormons would never commit suicide if a bishop, or Stake president told them to.
However if there prophet commanded them to. The righteous would be "brain washed" or "smart enough" (which ever term you prefer) to follow there prophet.
Remember the story of Abraham, aren't we glad that Isaac didn't say "father I'm not brainwashed enough to allow you to sacrifice me".
Luckily for Mormons they do not need to worry about that. There prophet seers and revelators will never ask them to do such a thing.

Are evangelical Christians brainwashed enough to commit suicide if their pastor commanded it of them?
I would think they would be much more apt to do so than the Mormons.
Even if our prophet decided that this is of God, it would have to be comfirmed by his two counselors and the quorum of the Twelve, and probably all the quorums of the Seventy also. God would NEVER tell ALL of them that suicide is necessary.
And no one more local would be listened to on something like that. More likely they would be locked up somewhere.
What would make you ask such a rediculous question?

Well prophets, bishops, and all church leaders in good standing with the church only tell members to do righteous things. Never to kill themselves. Mormons are also encouraged to find their own testimony of the doctrines of the church-not to be brainwashed.

Mormons were brainwashed enough by John D. Lee to massacre 120 men, women and children at Mountain Meadows in 1857. He was a "local leader".
The Martin & Willey handcart companies were brainwashed enough by Brigham Young, who publicly claimed NOT to be a prophet, to push forward from Winter Quarters to Salt Lake at a 75% fatality rate in the dead of winter.
Mormons were brainwashed enough to exact "Blood Atonement" on apostates up through the early 1880's.
Mormons were brainwashed enough to oppose the 1980's Equal Rights Amendment, which would have constitutionally guaranteed equal treatment and salary for women in the workplace. (The ERA lost by 3 states; Utah, Idaho, Nevada, and Arizona were all heavily mormon states that would have swayed the bill if the Church had supported, or even kept quiet about it)
Mormon children are brainwashed enough to repeat the following message in identical intonation and sing-song melancholy rhythm: "I like to bury my testimony... I know the Church is true... I love my family... and my friends... and my primary teachers... I know Gordon Behinckley's a true prophet... in the name Jesus Christ Amen."
Zion's camp members were brainwashed enough to follow Joseph Smith on a 1000+ mile trip to do nothing.
Mormon archaeologists are brainwashed enough to devote their entire professional lives trying to discover any shred of evidence that the religion is true.
Today, I think that Mormons are brainwashed enough to "defend the faith" against "oppressors" and start a battle to reclaim Adam Ondi-Ahman, even if it means the sacrifice of many lives. So in essence, yes, they are brainwashed enough to commit suicide, although it couldn't be called that.

no one is brainwashed, and no actual prophet would ever ask anyone to kill themselves or anyone else. we all have free agency and we are all smart enough to make right decisions. besides we only follow the prophets teachings as long as he is living a righteous life and is the Lords mouthpiece. If he were to ask this than he would be doing niether. please don't confuse absolute faith and knowledge with brainwashing. all make their choices by their own convictions and confirmations by the spirit. no one is forced to do or believe anything.

why ask such a stupid question??
your obviously not interested in the real answer.
if we tell you no, and give you good REAL reasons why that isn't even a logical question, all the people who AREN'T EVEN MORMON will come back and say how brainwashed we are, and that our bishop told us to say that.

They believed all the other nonsense like no coffee, family sealings, Book of Mormon ect.ect. If Gordy told them to drink some Kool Aid , they would probably find a way to mix it into their Jello.
I kinda wonder what would happen if an old man like Gordy had a dream about a spaceship that would take all the faithful to Kolob in the Celestial Kingdom following the next comet that comes along , what would happen. KOOL AID PARTY ?

There is a fear that they might commit heinous acts against the gentiles as prophesied by Joseph Smith and also as evidenced by Brigham Young's peripheral involvement in Meadows Mountain.
For example, if Gordon Hinckley suddenly announced that the saints were to return to Missouri at once to reclaim their lost property and land at any cost, he'd have mustered an army of tens of thousand 'faithful' un Utah alone. Who wouldn't want to not be a part of prophecy regarding the second coming?
Suicide, no. Genocide, quite possibly. This why Mitt need to be prevented from occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Ave - Just in case Gordon slips a notch.

I would just do what I have been taught to do. First, pray about it. Second, see if the Scriptures agree. Then, I will do what I feel is right.
If the word came down to committ suicide, I would ignore it!
